What Bike... XC/AM/trail mtb for £1500 ish.

Hello

I bought a 2006 Mongoose Teocali second hand for £400 last year, its been a decent bike but its getting old now and no matter how many services and new parts I buy for it, its getting to be a hassle to maintain it.

I do a bit of XC riding and trail riding mostly, so looking for something with 130mm minimum travel, full sus. for no more than £1500. Ideally I'd look at the bike to work scheme but heard you can't "put towards" with your own money for anything over £1k anymore... will still enquire about it though.

I'd love the Trek Remedy 7, great bike with great reviews, but £1700 is a bit over budget for getting it on finance if not on the bike to work scheme. Possibly overdoing it with the travel but heard its a good robust bike which doesn't weigh much more than the Fuel (p.s don't like these.)

Been looking at the Specialized Enduro / Stumpy, Commencal Meta and Felt Compulsion/Redemption too.

Something like the Orange Five Diva would be great but way over budget! For the record I'm 5'8" and about 11 stone, so don't really need (or want) a girly specific bike.

dont discount womens specific bikes, regardless of height and weight, they are now much better fitting for the female physique and the bikes tend to have shorter top tubes than male equivilent bikes. often they also have shorter stems and narrow grips, all little things that you dont notice but help comfort. also, you do need a womens saddle, a blokes saddle wil be so painful you will hate it with a passion...

i would discount the meta, i have a commencal super 4.2, and although i love it to pieces, i wouldnt recommend one to my eneemies.... you know, the same way people talk about alfa romeos... if you fancy a trek, a fuel might well be your best bet in my humble opinion, the rememdy is a big bike to be lugging around a trail centre.

Sorry, wrong forum again haha. The photography and pedal powered are my usual visits, got them mixed up!

Will look a bit further into the Fuel.

The specialized pitch pro suits your requirements, but comes in at about £1700 so is a little over budget and doesn't really offer more than the Trek you've got your eye on.

I too am in a similar position to you. I've got a 2005 Ellsworth Joker that is still pretty decent, but after looking at the new offerings from Lapierre, Trek and Specialised they make my bike look so dated!

I think I'll use my trusty old Ellsworth for another summer as I've bought a few new bits for it, and look to get a discounted 2011 bike towards the end of the year as a treat.

You should be able to get a 2010 Pitch Pro for £1500 if you can haggle a bit.

There's one advertised below for £1500, but I know nothing about the sellers.

That £1500 offer is expired unfortunately, the link tries to take me to evans.

I think I'd be better off seeing out this year the best I can with the Mongoose and going for a discount 2011 at the end of the year when less strapped for cash. I'm starting my first mortgage with the Boyfriend this Spring fingers crossed, so once payments have settled down I can reassess what I can afford better.

Would you opt for the Trek Remedy or the Specialized Pitch then, for similar budgets? Don't want anything too cumbersome up hills, but heard the Remedy is similar in weight to the Fuel. just with a slacker head angle.

If I had the money right now I'd take you up on the offer! Currently only able to look at bikes on finance though

That ladies Trek looks great for the price, good suggestion... only quibble is that I'm used to having a fair bit more travel and might miss it as I improve on the bike

Only if you plan on doing proper DH courses and DH spec. trails. More travel never automatically means better.
