Hello all!

I've just bought an S2, it's the 2.9 Ford V6 EFI, is that the standard lump? I tinker with Land Rovers as a rule, but this popped up and looked like it would be good fun if I could get it back on the road! It's one of these poor machines that has been passed between people over the past few years but has not actually been used! Looks like its been sat for a good 6 or so years! But it still runs like new!
The outriggers by the rear wheels are beyond patching, so I plan to whip the shell off and do the whole chassis properly! How much of a mission is this to do?
The Passenger door drops and needs adjusting, are there adjustments? Or does the fiberglass wear away where it pivots? The windows are either slow or not moving too, a quick clean up I assume??
I will re-wire it while its in bits and re-con the starter, alternator etc, but is there anything I need to be looking out for when I'm working on it? Anything I might miss?
Land Rovers are repairable with a big enough hammer and a welder, this looks a bit more precise! I'm confident she'll be a weapon once complete, but I'm keen to do it right! Cornwall and Devons roads aren't very forgiving!
Any advice gratefully recieved!

Yes the 2.9 Ford is std. the rebuild will be straight forward enough if you're used to Land Rover. Electrics will require a little more thought due to the poor earth conections plagued by this type of car. If you have the space, finance and time then this will be a cracking little car. Perhaps some pics??

Take a look at this site for advice. http://tvrs3series.co.uk/

good luck - -Cheers

Good luck with it, there's a wealth of advise on here if you use the advanced search, lot of chat about hinges quite recently and always a lot of chat about chassis'

Winston, I note you are in Devon and Cornwall, whereabouts? I am the regional organiser for Devon TVRCC and have an S3 on which I have done a full body off, see here and you are welcome to come and see my car and discuss the ins and outs. Indeed the car is currently on axle stands with no rear suspension so a look over is easy. If you look on my website and drop me an email (or a PM from my member page) I'll send you a phone number to ring.

I would guess that if the outriggers are as bad as you say then be prepared to replace the trailing arms as well, new are available for later cars from TVR Car Parts at Cullompton, quite closed to you I guess or Adrian Venn Exactly TVR Coventry adrian@ on here can repair/refurbish existing ones.

If the chassis is very rotten then you will need to get it repaired on a jig and Dulford Automotive (sister company to TVR CarParts) can help as they purchased all the S Series spare jigs etc from the factory.

Door hanging is a dark and arcane art but some information is available here

Window winders well 'they all do that sir' always slow at best and not a design triumph, but new channel felts and silicone spray should help

I have pdfs on the V6 wiring diagrams if they will help, send me a PM through my profile and I can email to you.

Lastly get a copy of Steve Heaths S Series bible, details here

Brilliant! Thankyou all, I've been called away with work now till mid Feb, so it's a long term thing! I used to play with Radar in the raf, so I'll get the wiring sussed, but I will get in touch if I get mixed up!
I've had the blue bullet up on ramps and the corrosion looks very localised to the back out riggers! I'm hoping I won't find too many more weight-saving holes when I lift the shell off! I'll look up the Cullompton people!
I will send some PM's out when I get going with this, I'm interested in getting in touch with any clubs, partly for bits, partly for the social aspect! I live in both Broadclyst and Callington! (Callington is easy to find, its the center of the universe.)
My final quiery for the time being is the layer of paint protection. I believe my paint is fine, but the top layer I will have rubbed back and re-done. Plus the odd little paint bit if I can find a match! Now, is it Laquer? Or some Gel stuff? I've heard all sorts, but no definate answer!
Thankyou all for taking time out to message me on here, very much appreciated! No doubt I'll be keeping in touch on here!! Can't wait to get this weapon flying again!

Check out my little shop of horrors here, I am an engineer and did a really good check on this car to find this when I lifted the shell (it had also passed an MOT 1 month before from a reputable garage too)

From pictures etc that I've seen I believe all TVRs were moulded in "raw" fibreglass then painted, and possibly laquered. Mine is green, not metallic, but definately has (peeling) laquer on top but there does appear to be some on the number plate lights so maybe its been touched up or resprayed at some time ?

Sure they are not "moulded in colour" like some kit cars and beach buggies were ?

Jonesy,

I'm yet to get stuck into this project to be honest! I believe there's a substitute parts list online, and specialist workshops dotted around the country, mine is Cullompton if you're from that way! I plan to clean the motor up, tidy up the wiring, grease the moving parts and rub grease in the existing runners! Mine seem in reasonable condition though! It's just been left for a while is all! This age of cars components seem to be strip down, clean, grease and reassemble! I'll soon find out though!

I used to get my window felt for the Cerb from TVR Centre in Barnet. Now they are under another name I can't remember, and are in Hertford. Call 0208 440 6666. They are settling into their new premises at the mo so may not have the parts dept fully up and running, but should be able to get the felt for you.
