First things first. Does a lit ABS light mean an MOT fail?

Secondly, I currently run around in a 1999 Primera P11 Estate. The ABS light is lit most of the time and the ABS doesn't operate. Sometimes it stays off though and the ABS operates fine but will eventually come back on and fail to operate.

What would be the likely cause? Could it be a dirty sensor or dodgy connection? I have looked online for advice but nothing seems to relate to these symptoms. The ABS just seems to trip itself out or something.

Any help?

Most likely a filthy sensor, IMHO - ABS light is an MoT fail, to pass it should come on with the ignition and go out to indicate no faults.

Yes.

Could be sensor, controller, wires, reluctor ring.....

Need to investigate. check sensor resistance etc
