I'm not watching TV at all lately. So I am going to cancel my sky boxes & thinking about stopping my TV license. What are the does & don't if I do this?

Can I listen to Radio in the Car?
Can I listen to radio in house?
Watch BBC Iplayer / 4OD on Computer/PS3?

Yes
Yes
Yes - as long as it isn't at the same time as the broadcast (so no live F1, football etc.)

Thanks Mashalla

So basically I can watch stuff over net, as long as it is not a simultaneous broadcast smile

No
No
No - This is why BBC iplayer is not officially useable outside the UK.

You legally cannot use or be in possession of any equipment capable of receiving BBC broadcasts. Even clapped out radio's/TV's in your attic.

Completely wrong. The licence is to receive live TV broadcasts. Ownership or possession of equipment is totally irrelevant.

You only require a TV licence to receive TV programmes as they are broadcast.

As above aslong as you dont watch any tv live it is ok.

I can add that you are guilty until proven innocent.
You will have some big blokes knocking at your door wanting to search your house.
Said blokes will try anything possible to get a reception from your tv.

Its ok though because once you prove you dont watch live tv they will only come knocking every 2 years instead of every month.

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of it, bear in mind that genital herpes is easier to get rid of than the Unbelievers at TV License HQ who will categorically refuse to accept that anyone can get by without a tv in 2011, and subsequently make it their mission in life to prove you still have a telly and regally screw you accordingly.

I know people who get letter after letter advising of a visit to check if they have a TV. They popped round and accused him of having a sky box. Having "DVD" written on the front didn't stop 45 minutes of phone calls and acusations, before finally buggering off.

The family home has had a license since the dawn of time, but they still love to send letters. Even after phone calls to advise them.

Only 15 years worth, computer must say no.

They have no power to enter your home.

In fact, if you don't even get into conversation with them, they have no power at all.

I'd cancel our TV license tomorrow, if the other half wasn't obsessed with the bd thing!

This has been my situation for 2 years.

I get a letter every month telling me i am breaking the law.
I get a visit from capita every month demanding entrance to search my house.
Or when im not home there would be a letter hand posted through the door headed
"We Said We Would Call" boxedin

It's just blatant bullying i tell them to get stuffed every time. Past 3 times i have told them to go back to HQ and tell them if they want to enter my house they come with a search warrant.

But no they would rather try and bully me at my own front door every month. The best bit is if they look through my window they will see a tv, xbox 360 and surround sound. Also if they look to the left of the window they will see my tv ariel nicely wrapped up at about head height not a sky dish insight.

yes
Unless you tell them that according to EU law you don't need a tv licence.
If you did that, as I did many years ago, they will never bother you again.

I can't be bothered to find the link but it's something to do with the EU saying news must be free to air and the BBC/licence people have never taken it to court because they know they would fail.

It is so damn easy to get away with watching TV without a licence, but for the few good programmes they put out (Top Gear, F1 and premier league highlights without adverts bounce and so on) I think its worth the couple of quid a week it costs.

I was without a tv for 3 years. The pestering stopped after I filled out one of the million forms sent to me in crayon. I wrote over the whole thing something along the lines of "TV is the work of the devil, begone you foul minions of Satan". I never heard from them again. laugh

No Licence here, and only 2 TV's.

Nice chap came round as promised, pressed buttons on our TV, and found white noise. Probably spotted cabinet full of DVD's, WII, PS2, DVD Player. He left and we've never heard from them again. That was about 4 years ago.

I've found in the past that responding to their letters tended to generate more letters whereas ignoring them meant less letters.
