I bought my PS3 as a GT5 prologue special edition.

GT5 finally out and now it won't power up. It tries to, then the red light just sits there flashing at me...

Sony will replace it with a recon one for £130 but that means I lose all the stuff on my hard disk.

It also seems like they can be repaired which means I keep my data. There seem to be a number of repairers and guides how to do it yourself on youtube, ranging from resoldering the GPU or just heating it up with a hot air blower.

Can anyone recommend a repairer that they have used before?

It should be possibe to just remove the harddrive and either clone it or put into the next one surely?

Apparently not. If you put the hard drive in a different PS3 it just reformats it.

Best bet is to attempt a DIY reflow (instruction online) and see if it can run long enough to back up to an external FAT32 hard drive.

My PS3 failed literally ten minutes before GT5 dropped through the door. Rather upset that afternoon.
