Aluminium panel protection
Discussion
Hi all
I've recently some aluminium panels powder coated in matte black colour for my Ford GT40. The powder coating should be fairly though but I was wondering if there is any kind of coating I can add to the panels to give them extra protection?
I was wondering if something like 3M venture shield would work or some other kind of protective film?
I realise this might seem a little excessive but I'd like to protect the panels during my build to avoid scratching or scuffing anything
Any advise is welcome
Thanks
Trevor

its the best to stop alloy rot - i had a pre war singer car with alloy bodywork and ash frames - it stopped any rot
What about "Helicopter Tape" as used on Mountain bikes. Available in many types and widths. And in matt black.

Aluminium doesn't rust like steel does. The oxide forms a solid barrier, which doesn't flake, so can be left completely uncoated with no ill effect.
That depends totally on the actual alloy. Never noticed that old gearbox and engine castings go very white and furry if left to stand for any length of time?spyder dryver said:

It's just a cosmetic issue for standard duty, unless it's a mating surface.
