Somewhat irrelevant post, which I apoligise in advance for, but do you chaps look at the rennlist page at all?
I must admit I have taken aback by the mindless whittering of our american counterparts.
Some of the posts and comments are amusing in a cringe worthy sort of way; but cleary not intentionally.
It just strikes me that they seem to display a certain stupid smugness and snobbery that is responsible for giving Porsche drivers the well known stereotype.
Am I just moaning due to this exceptionally bad coffee I am drinking, or has anyone else noticed this?

Our American friends are culturally very different to us. What sounds smug/idiotic/downright rude/totally inexplicable/wildly funny may be anything but and occasionally the complete opposite in my experience.
When living out there for a year or so I eventually got to be able speak fluent American. If you see what I mean.

I found number of Rennlisters quite helpful before PH got a strong Porsche community going.
Now, frankly, I don't bother because PH is better and has a very strong UK membership...

Ted, I think it would kill the PH porsche forum to break it down into model category. The reason I don't use rennlist much (despite being a member) is that I only ended chatting to UV and another guy I know on the T2 forum anyway. The posts were infrequent... there were very few UK responses... and also there seemed to be genuine rivalry between the model types.
On PH Porsche forum, everyone has a good natter, from Thom with his 944 S2 to Lee and his forthcoming 996TT. We even let the Boxster guys join in ;-)))))
The reason the Ultima list is a bit dead is that these forums need a 'critical mass' of regular posters to get momentum. Without the momentum you end up with occasional posts, and people just don't bother with it after a while. Therefore, if you split it *at the moment*, you'd probably have a live 911 and Boxster forum, and then Thom all on his lonesome posting to himself in the 944 forum!
Of course, you did say 'sufficient traffic', but if Rennlist can't get the traffic on all categories, it may be a while before PH gets to an even higher volume of specific model-type posts.
Also, many Porsche PH-ers have owned across the model range, and have handy advice to give that may be missed if the forum was split.
All IMHO.

Ted, echo Domster's sentiments entirely.
As a will-be (is that a phrase ?) 911 owner (well, it'll stop the 911 posse dissing me Boxster), it will kill our little meeting place. I'm just sorry that I can't make this Sunday (sister's wedding)
We're all equal here, with a common badge. Plus I'd have to surf further for Thom's anecdotes

No, I was looking at a possible late 964 or early 993. But not for a while. Still need my massive Liza (well, Mrs GE240 got her Porsche.....), and all the other AV nonsense.

Yes, I completely agree with Domster as well. It's so nice to have people with different Porkers getting to discuss together.
Actually I didn't mean I was looking for a 944 section here, and in some way I am not really looking forward for Ted to putting one; specific sections are really good only for technical purposes. IMO they also tend to categorise and divide petrolheads in casts, as it is quite the case on rennlist.
We are quite a few Porschephiles here and it's nice to see members wandering here and there, not exclusively in this or that topic.
I don't want to sound selfish but there's definitely more "intimacy" between members of a small group than member of a big group. That said, welcome to new Porsche drivers and enthusiasts!

I try to add value on real questions. Most of these guys spend all their
time talking about the flashiest wheels they can buy, street racing
stupidity, and $5000 stereo installs in their $5000 car. I'm an inch away
from never going back.
Thank goodness for the 924/944 e-mail list, populated by intelligent and
occasionaly humorous discussion, promoting sensible dialog around the
subjects I care about... 944's in all flavors, keeping them
running/repaired, and tracking them like they were meant to be.
