Top Gear Christmas special at 8pm BBC 26/12/10
Discussion
Tonight's offering.....................
Sunday 26 December 20:00 - 21:15 BBC2
Monday 27 December 18.45 - 20.00 BBC2
Middle East Special
1, series 16
Top Gear is a tribal thing.
Like Marmite and hunting, it divides the nation.
But even those who avoid the regular show can enjoy the specials, like this one, where Clarkson, Hammond and May embark on ill-advised road trips in ropey old bangers.
This year it's the entire Middle East as the Three Unwise Men drive to Bethlehem via Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Israel.
Their transport is a trio of second-hand convertibles - a Mazda MX5, a BMW Z3 and a Fiat Barchetta. Ideal desert wheels, then, but they begin in a Russian transport plane over Iraq, in which Richard Hammond - no stranger to brushes with death - has a terrifying experience.

Rubbish, same old routine, 3 cars, several break downs, driving into each other, act stunned they made it with a team of mechanics, modify cars so their even worse and then buy each other some pointless s
t, and finish with a strange ending. Dissapointing
Exactly the same formula as nearly all of the special episodes. Sometimes it works well , Bolivia , Thailand . Sometimes it really is bad , This episode especially
t, and finish with a strange ending. DissapointingPretty good overall, of course its going to be full of the scripted b
ks but who cares? Its better than pretty much all the crap the TV networks have thrown at us the last couple of days!
I predicted the baby Stig thing when they started following the light. Was obvious it would end like that when they turned up and the "Shepherds" were on quad bikes....

Well I Enjoyed it. It was motoring entertainment on an otherwise s
te day for TV.
Ok the formula may be getting a bit tired, but it is still entertaining.
Don't really see images of that area of the world without bulletts flying everywhere. so that was pretty good.
May be a good place for a road trip in a few years once the military have left & everything calmed down.

How dare they? Suggest that a MX5 is just an appliance, like a laptop?
I could have thought of much better comparisons for the s
tboxes. Hairdryers.
Glad they liked the FIAT over the MX-Poxy-5 and the BMW.
Had this thread been in General Gassing, I'm sure that the Hairdressers would have been flooding it with "how dare they suggest that *my* MX5 is like a laptop".

The Z3 didn't stand a chance: 1.9 Automatic FFS!I could have thought of much better comparisons for the s

Actually they all deserve some praise - the cars that is - for surviving the abuse of the Three Prize Idiots. I'd like to know how much it cost to get the Thread Doctor out from his lair in Surrey to the Mazda to sort the stripped spark plug thread, and what protection, if any, the cars had fitted to protect against grounding damage.
