Hardly the right time of year for extending the garage I know but needs must - so what's the minimum safe temperature for laying a base which'll be a 4:1 mix using 20mm ballast over hardcore and any guide to how much sand I'll need per 100 bricks?

Over to you Chaps thumbup

3 above freezing I've heard, and that's with plasticiser / frost proofer mixed in.

One tonne of building sand per 1000 bricks (65mm), 60 bricks per square metre, 6-8 bags of cement per tonne of sand, dependant on strength of mortar required.

Cover any work with hessian/old blankets to keep direct frost off this weather.

We use this http://www.buildersmerchantsjournal.net/products/p...

Can be used when temp drops down to -8, and it works.

Without any additives it needs to be a min of 2 above.
