There seems to be a fair bit of interest in these, especially in light of the colder weather etc.
Several people have them fitted, and it seems as long as you turn them on a little while before going for a drive, you can get some heat into the oil/block and potentially cut down on cold-start wear.
They all seem to come from the US/Canada, and can work out relatively expensive once shipping is added - so it seems an ideal product for a group buy.
Anyone else interested? I'd hope to be looking at around £50 inc delivery.

Are you planning on putting these on a Speed Six engine by any chance ? If so, don't forget that the engine oil is stored outside the engine block in the dry sump.
We reviewed the Speed Six engine warm up issue when I worked at Racing Green TVR and learned that Kenlowe make a Dry Sump heater system. But it is a bit more than £50; more like £450 + Fitting + VAT, if memory serves. I don't believe we ever sold any because that's quite a lot of money to spend on an engine life preservative (notwithstanding the price of a rebuild).
The other thing to remember about the Speed Six Dry Sump is that - dependent on TVR model - it tends to sit way forward in the air stream, which keeps it nice and chilly and really lengthens the warm up period when the car is moving at the recommended max of 2500 RPM (about 65 mph in 5th) as you try to get the oil temp to reach 65 degrees C ! We also therefore looked into Radiator type blinds and electric blankets for the dry sump. Never really went anywhere with an offer to the buying public but, if you are interested, why not Google the subject ?
Would make a nice winter project and could extend the life of your Speed Six engine if you are driving it on days like today ! I'm sure Racing Green would be happy to discuss ideas with you.

Yes, I've got a S6 - a few T350/Sag guys run them, I'm not expecting it to be up to temp when I start the key, but as they say - every little helps.
We can get 15%-20% discount dependant upon numbers, and also we'd all save on shipping as there would only be one international parcel - then would need to sort UK distribution.

Just out of couriosity, have you allowed for import duty in your estimate ?From my limited experience of buying things from the States small, low value items don't attract too much attention (usually) but a parcel of several of these things might well ?
Mattt, these are available in the UK I think, from engineheaters.co.uk - the website has a uk phone number too. And I think this is the same system that Tailslide has on his T350. Just a thought, but it may be worth approaching these guys for a group buy in the UK....which may get around the import duty issue and save a headache too. There's a thread somewhere that explains Tailslide's system and size of heating pad on the dry sump tank.
Let us know what you find out on pricing, as if they're cheap enough, I'd add one to my tank just to take the chill off the oil before I go out. I've been thinking about it, but not yet done anything about it.

For a quantity of 11 to 16 (20% discount of main price) of Model 16-240 240 volt, 250 watt, Engine Oil Heaters, the unit price is £40.00 GBP ea.
This is shipped to one location, and would then need to be shipped on again or collected - so minor logistic issues.
I might see if we can negotiate a general level of discount, which could then be shipped to individual locations - if people would prefer this? I'm not sure I'll have the time to arrange packing and shipping to everyone's houses.

According to the data models 9.0 or 9.1 ( rectangular or round) are best suited.

Indeed. I wonder if simple lagging of the sump tank would work? With perhaps an external oil cooler to regain any cooling benefit (since an oil cooler is generally thermostatically switched to only cool above a certain temperature.Edited by JonRB on Tuesday 28th December 20:13
Have a look here: this is a 16 on the underside of a T350 oil tank and delivers 250 watts. A 9.0 or 9.1 is only half the power, at 125 watts, and it stands to reason that the 16 will heat the contents of the tank better/quicker.
