whatcar to mod?
Discussion
hey guys, im thinking of dumping 2000 into a car to buy, and then spend up to 3000 on the car to make it quicker, reliable and stand out amongst other cars
i want the car to be diesel so that once ive spent the money on the car i can still enjoy the economy yet also experience the torque
is it worth dumping 3000 into an older car? how much would an engine rebuild, hybrid turbo, full cat back exhaust and a new paint job cost, and lowering the car with window tint maybe
cheers guys, i want diesel to dont suggest petrol, thanks

WTF? Spend £2k on a car then £3k to mod it? I must be getting old because it seems to me it would be much more sensible to get a £5k car, or a £4.5k car and then spend £500 on a service and new brakes/tyres/bushes or something or maybe a paint correction detail? Or maybe even £4k and £1k on a good service and a new stereo if that's your thing.
But seriously... £3k blown on tarting up a £2k car?! I don't see that making sense unless you're talking about restoring a classic to the point where it will be worth c£5k or more.... but I fear from your OP that you're actually intending on ruining a shopping trolley.
(In all seriousness, a £2k hatch with £3k dropped on it will be worth... about £2k when you sell it next year.)

A £2k car you've spent £3k modding will probably be worth around £2050 when you've finished.
Instead of wasting 3 grand, why not just buy something decent for 5k?
Never really understood this buying a turd and rolling it in glitter thing...
Because you can really make it your own car. It becomes part of you, you can park it next to the same model in a car park come back to it and think it's similar but mine really is MINE and not jump in any other and think oh this could be mine as well. Instead of wasting 3 grand, why not just buy something decent for 5k?
