Ive found my life too boring recently and have decided joining some kind of car club will lift the boredom away.

How could I go about finding different clubs, mainly something exotic and not american. Looking for something in the DC area, anybody know of any good ones off hand? Do you have to pay annual fees and what other obligations would be due upon joining. Any info is greatly appreciated, I really need something to calm down this car bug.

I suggest you look at joining the SCCA. Membership fees are normal, but tend to be fairly well controlled.

Owners clubs tend to be very snobby. You'd be better off being in a club where people like to thrash cars. Get to know people and you can organise events in the long term. Get involved in something like autocrossing and learn to drive in safety for very little money.

If people respect your ability they will in time ask you if you want to drive their car. Don't frighten them, enjoy, and you will in time receive more offers.

I always thought owners clubs would be kind of snobby. Shall see about the SCCA, my dad used to race with them iirc, so all the better if I can get him started up in it again too since he the one with all the money.

Brian...

Currently I belong to Lotus Ltd (National Organisation) but locally we have a "non-club". What are the benefits of a "non-club"

1. No Membership dues
2. The ability to do ad-hoc stuff at a moment's notice
3. No politics
4. No secret handshakes

If only I knew people around my area who had nice cars worth starting a club over.

Madmike, how bout you and me start a local lotus club. We could have a meet once a month where you drive me around in the esprit.
