The decision has been made... 964RS
Discussion
Hi Guys
After months of dithering and waivering between 993s, Turbo 2s and even a lovely 968CS, I have now made my choice. The car to replace my Lotus Carlton will be a Porsche 964RS.
For me, this seems the ultimate blend of Porsche reliability, TVR-esque extreme character, scintillating performance and purity. They apparently don't depreciate much in LHD either, and Evo recently put it ahead of some very tasty machinery (inc 996TT and 993GT2) as a 'driver's Porsche'. It even stuck to the rump of a 959 on the twisties, so I may not miss my 377bhp too much.
Thing is, I've never even driven one. And I've put a deposit down on the following car (make sure the URL has no gaps when you paste, dunno what the line breaks will do).

Yes, I am a nugget, but a happy one at that! Delivery will be in a month or so, whereupon it will appear at the odd PH meet.
What do you guys reckon? Anyone driven an RS - I know UV has. And yes, I know it will be rawer than a session with madame whiplash ;-)

Cheers for the comments guys. Yes, a true enthusiast is selling the car to me - he had a lovely spread sheet printed out for me with all expenditure detailed(!). He is a bit of a perfectionist, so much so that he doesn't use the magnesium wheels when the roads are salty (it comes with a spare set of 993 Cup wheels of the correct offset) and had custom OEM floor mats made with a cut out for the aftermarket fire extinguisher.
Very good choice and a better RS I don't think you could find. George spent a lot of money sorting that car, and it now has a fresh coat of paint as well.
I assume you know he has running reports in 911 & PW.
Very jealous, as I have said before the only reason I didn't buy one was I couldn't get my golf clubs in

Looks awful mate, far too low for our speed bump ridden residence, wheels should be made of fine birmingham steel (and I know of a nice set of plastice trims too) and not this Magnesium stuff, seats look like something the Saxo boyz were wing over at Ripspeed in my local Halfords and with that suspension it's going to spill your coffee even from the cup holders that I've got you for your birthday.
Seriously tho mate, I'd keep the fire extinguisher on the outside of the car, you may need it if I wake up and decide it looks better than my 993 one morning!!!!!

Hi guys
UV - yeah, he said he had a running report or two in 911&PW but I haven't got to WHSmiths to have a look yet. Apparently another Porsche specialist magazine has a comparison of 964RS vs GT3, so will have to get down to a newsagents soonish.
Scottster - I'll let you rewire it and you can save on the petrol;-) You'd better be nice to me today otherwise I might just have to negotiate the old A40 in my inimitable 'racing line' stylee on the way home tonight ;-)))
Thom - never drove the 968CS, but Scottster has and rates it highly. It was actually a PH members, really well maintained and pretty immaculate apparently. Sadly it got withdrawn from sale. Price would have been between 14k and 18k in speed yellow, RHD, depending on condition and mileage, but never got as far as negotiations.

Thanks paul - it does feel the 'right' car to go for... I'm glad you hold yours in high esteem. It is nice to know there's another PHer out there with one.
I have a tame ex-RS owner feeding me info - who's a great help - but two opinions are better than one, so thanks for the offer... I'm sure I'll take you up on it.

PS UV - I have seen the site (where I found the RS for sale) - any part of it in particular?
PPS Hurry up and get Ray's wheels before the Ford Probe owners welcome you with open arms ;-)
