Hi

Need some seasoned hardwood logs for domestic use (probably a couple of cubic metres), in Redhill area. Can anybody recommend a supplier that delivers? Also can anybody suggest what I should be prepared to pay?

THANKS!!!!

can't help with location, but recently bought a cubic metre or so of seasoned hard wood from a local tree surgeon for £70. he was also selling twice that volume for £110.

That's a good wheeze, he charges once to cut the tree and remove the wood, then again to get rid of it!

You could try giving Connick treecare a call. They are just off Woodhatch Rd between woodhatch and Salfords. Not sure if they do seasoned but they used to sell logs so worth a try.

OTOH, he has to cut them up into logs, stack them to store, provide somewhere for storage for a year, then load up, and deliver to you.

Some of these guys invest quite a lot of time and labour or clever hardware in cutting logs. We insure a few, and it isn't exactly easy money.

The good thing about logs though, is that they will warm you more then once. Every time you move and stack them, until you put them on the fire!

My neighbour is a tree surgeon. He thinks cutting down the trees is the easy part of the job, the hard work starts when you have to chop them up and load the bags.....

£70 a bag is cheap. Stuff seasoned outdoors will be in the £70 to £90 range, kiln dried will be £90 to £110 a bag. Not cheap any more!!

I'm only down the road from Redhill.

As said above, Connick always used to supply seasoned.

Just had a 1m3 dump bag of seasoned hardwood delivered for £54 (though I'm in the north west).

Incidentally, I find that the seasoned wood burns hotter & longer than some kiln dried stuff that I've got!
