It will be shown in Detroit as a concept, but its one of those concepts that will really very probably be a production model.

Take one Countryman, make it a 3dr and give it a slopey roof. If you can call a Countryman a 4x4, this is a Countryman Coupe, or a small X6, or a Range Rover Evoque. Looking at it, they've seen the Evoque and thought they'd have a bit of that thankyou please rolleyes .

It pains me to say that I quite like that, but I do.

Countryman = big, dull version of Mini which isn't remotely cute.

....doesn't sound like a huge leap forward.

What we need is the 'S' version. Not the "Paceman S" but the "Mini Spaceman". This environmentally friendly hybrid version fitted with a rack of six raplaceable solid-fuel rocket motors would move performance into an entirely new league!!!!

Does look that way at first glance doesn't it. How does it compare sizewise?

I saw this early in the morning, when they uploaded it onto their facebook page. the countryman is essentially golf/focus sized right? so this is pretty much a 3dr hatchback that will compete with the auris/golf/focus/leon/a3 etc..?
quite promising. pretty much a larger (slightly more practical) mini. perhaps with 4wd?
