Fire Up The Winter Shed
Discussion
Well, my pick up doesn't go on the road in the winter and my Mustang daily driver keeps trying to kill me in the ice and snow so I've succumbed to half the cylinders and FWD.
It's not to bad for shed money. 2.0 16v, abs, Loads of history, everything works and a bit retro.
I just need to make myself a 80/90's CD, splash on some Paco Rabanne and try and grow the mullet back

Looks rather swell. And i like the colour.
What's it like to drive then? Light steering wheel with little feedback?
It drives really nicely for what effectively is a 20 year old car. What's it like to drive then? Light steering wheel with little feedback?
Can't really comment on the steering and feedback as it was pretty much solid ice & snow from where I bought it to home.
All I know is that it didn't try to swap ends at every whiff of the throttle so that's good enough for me right now

I fail to see how an immaculate Audi is a 'shed'. No where else have I heard this stupid phrase for an old cheap to buy car. Snobism gone wrong I say.
Shed is not an insult, it's a term of endearment, see: http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=162flyn said:

Mate, it's a shed. It looks nicer on the pictures than in real life. You can't see where the laquer has been lifted off by some numpty with a pressure washer and where the paint has faded to pink.
There's a few holes in the dash where some after market switches have been fitted and it has the wrong steering wheel and stereo.
However, with a few "Wheeler Dealer" type touches like paint correction, good used parts and a wheel refurb, I think it's going to be a really nice little runabout.
It only cost me £750. What can you get for that? Nissan Micra? Ford Ka? This is cooler by far.
A lot of us would be glad of a nice car like that. It's not fair to call that a shed as it could be someones pride and joy. I own a far less prestige car yet I never thought of it as a 'shed' but compared to what you guys think of as a 'shed' I don't stand a chance with my humble 306.

It really bothers you that much? Really? It's a term for a cheap car, long used on PH along with 'Bangernomics'. If it really causes you that much upset, I'd suggest swapping PH for mumsnet and trying to avoid tripping over your vagina on the way out.Stu R said:

FlynAs pointed out, this is Pistonheads. Look at some of the cars owned on here.
I think the general consensus is that if it cost less than a grand and has some kind of retro cool going for it, then it's classed as a shed.
Compared to my truck or my Mercedes S Class it IS a shed.
But I'm not being snobby. I started out in the 70's with an ex GPO Minivan and worked my way up from there. I didn't start getting the cars I wanted till my late 30's or early 40's, probably like lots of people on here.
If you have a 306, that's fine. One day, you might find something nicer.

I don't want anything nicer my 306 is perfect for my needs thank you. I did notice you're thinly veiled insult by the way. I see no reason to change car based on what some overpaid snobs think.
I have one car written off by an imbecile, it cost me £1000 it wasn't a shed literally but it was my cheap shed. I have replaced it with a 2.0T Volvo, which will also be known as a shed, it will be a comfortable shed but a shed non the less. I do expect that my next shed will have a few £s spent on it and will hopefully serve me well. Just because we on this site use the term shed does not make us snobs or overpaid. It is just recognition that while £1000 is a lot of money to some people in the context of cars it is close to the bottom of the pile, and on a website where owning a 911 or a M5 isn't something out of the ordinary then it puts it into context.
That doesn't mean that people don't respect cheap cars or that you can't be a petrol head if you have a tiny budget, check some of the bargain barge threads for proof of that. Or indeed some of the owners car threads where people have very cheap cars that they have turned into fantastic machines.
So true Chris
One of the great things about ph and its members is how proud members can and do get of cars they have that are sheds and that they have bought for next to nothing but they really enjoy owning.
I have a shed. Its an audi a4 tdi with 306k miles on it. Its worth feck all but i am by no means ashamed of it nor do i feel looked down on by members on here due to the fact the car suits my needs and does a brilliant job of doing what i need/want it to do.
Stop being such a big jessie Flynn.
You and your 306 are very much welcome here and by no means looked down on. There are members on here with fleets of very expensive cars who have what are defined as sheds purely because cheap cars are also fun/great cars to own.

Completely wrong in an epic manner, i have no intention of buying new cars or even cars under around 10 years old.
It is not that i dont have the money, i just prefer older cars.
I also am not here to stalk rich folk, i am merely here as i enjoy cars and anything motor related really, probably why others are here.

I think you'll find that people don't 'mind' because they want to be friendly with the rich people. In other words, they wish to fit it and would quite readily claim their 'shed' is just a stop gap when infact it isn't and they are ashamed that they can't keep up with the Jones.
What a load of s
