Tomorrow 5pm (Sunday 19th). Local roads (I live on Box Hill) are impassible in anything else, cabs won't come up here, and I'm hoping to get away for Christmas.

Heeeeeeeeeeelp!

PM. Please.

Good red and gratitude by way of compo. smile

MC, I'm sure you're aware they've closed Gatwick at the moment...? frown

Even if you find a saviour with a 4x4 steed, you may only end up stuck at the airport. Hope it works out for you though.

Ah, just checked and it's open again; hope you successfully navigate any delays.

It 'seems' to be open - I can see it from the house.

Are you planning on getting the 4x4 to pull the plane up the runway or something?

I work here. (Currently in the office). The airport is open, inbound and outbound, however there are many, many cacellations and delays. So, obviously check with flight operator before making the journey here as there are currently st loads of people camped out in the terminal building(s).

The roads in and around Crawley/Gatwick are fine so you shouldn't have too much difficulty getting in once you get out from home smile

You don't need a 4x4, you need a BMW with someone 'who knows how to drive' - they can go anywhere in these conditions.

ETA: I'm not 'fking off on holiday', I've booked a trekking expedition in Morocco in order to avoid spending Christmas alone.

I need to be in Marrakech Sunday night in order to meet up with the rest of the group.

HTH for anyone who thinks they can take the piss.

And how is this not 'fking off on holiday'?

I'm going to be going on an important mission next week that involves travelling to the French Alps with my wife and sliding down some of them on planks. It's no holiday, let me tell you.

I really hope you get there on time mate - I've seen your other posts about this and it sounds like it should be a damned good trip!

Good luck and if all else fails, well, walk - get some practice for your holiday, sorry, non-holiday wink

Cheers

Thanks. However Gatwick is a good 15 miles away.

I can claim the cost of the trip (but not the equipment required) on insurance, however that isn't the point.

After all I've given to the PH community over the years, one would think it would be good to get something back.

Apparently not. irked

Are you sure your flight is running, my husband was due to fly in to Heathrow from Korea today, their plane along with many others was diverted to Brussels, they were held on the tarmac from 17:00 - 23:00 they have just been put in a holding pen, they can't make alternative arrangements as they are not allowed to leave the airport and their luggage is still on the plane. There seems to be about 300 flights in the wrong place tonight, with no plans for flying until at least after 10:00 tomorrow.
