Just quick (and probably obvious) question....

when you sell on eBay using auction style or buy it now and someone wins the car, do they HAVE to pay for it and take it away even though they have not seen the car in person beforehand? I would like to know before I sell my car on there and invite a whole heap of trouble.

Iv'e sold 2 x cars using eBay, I put that I reserve the right to end the auction early, both times the eventual buyer saw the car, I ended the auction and we did a deal. Worked for me.

I have also sold 2 cars like this on ebay. 3rd sale I let the auction run it's course and had bidders view the car before the end, finished up with more money than I had expected and a fair bit more than the car was worth but I have to say this was about 5 years ago and I think the whole ebay experience was better then.

I had nothing but trouble last year. The amount of abusive e-mails from people was unbelievable. Prepare yourself for the worst, then you might get off lightly. People create new accounts to bid, if the have second thoughts they do a runner and delete the account ( happened to me ). Why this is mainly in the motors section? I reported it all, eBay done nothing.

Never sold a car on Pistonheads, but I bought my 928 here in June. Hassle free.

Godd luck.

Yes, they do have to pay for it and take it away even if they have not viewed it. However there are countless stories of people turning up and saying it is not as described or finding fault after a couple of days and causing a great deal of stress for the seller.

Put it this way, road users HAVE to stop at traffic lights when they are amber or are red but do they all stop every time? Drivers HAVE to stop after an accident and leave their details. How many threads are on PH about people coming back to their car and finding damage and no sign of the perp?

eBay is like life elsewhere. There are loads of genuine, nice people and and a minority of tts who spoil things for enjoyment. It's a chance you take.

It just seems that cars which listed 'auction style' seem to get more interest than a classified. I'll see how it goes. Worst case is that I simply lose the money on the advert and don't get a sale which is nothing to cry over.

Well if you put full contact details you haven't lost the cost of the advert have because you've had the value of advertising it! No different to Autotrader or whatever.
