Finally managed to get the 60 golds, at the cost of my R2 trigger spring. As a result means I had to resort to using buttons and have lost the feeling in the top of my right thumb!

All I can say is that the AI and the collision detection is possibly the most frustrating thing about the whole game. Being disqualified for an AI driver ramming into you (or ramming you off the track), because he is slavishly following a line, led to a few choice words being uttered on several occasions.

So - who else has the managed to get all 60?

I'm working towards this at the moment but there aren't enough spare hours in the day sadly - it took me a couple of hours to shave 0.034 off in one of the earlier tests the other night and then when I did it was by half a second. Something about monkeys and typewriters perhaps?

Well done for having the patience, how long did it all take.

I might have a go at this at some point.

TBH - not as long as I expected. I've jumped around through the game a bit, so i don't know exactly how long it has taken - but I would say apart from a few where you have to find "the trick" to beating them, I could get through a licence in an hour or two.

Some of the hardest for me to get gold on were:

IC-1 - 1000m Stopping Challenge
IB-3 - Slalom
IA-1 - Mastering Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans)
S-4 - Mastering Overtaking (R246)

The first two were certainly the most frustrating and took me quite a while. The former was just a case of tweaking the car setup, whereas the slalom was just tweaking the technique!

ETA: Maty - you win cars for completing each licence with all one level of trophy - so one car for getting all bronze, one for all silver and one for all gold (so 18 total). Plus you get the experience points for each.

I'm going to sit down and work towards this once I have enough cash for the Formula GT, and am cycling the UCD for it. Currently got all silvers/golds up to IB5, golds on the ones that I'm likely to struggle on.

Out of interest - are there any more braking tests or slaloms? They're the ones I hate.

+1 the braking ones are a pain to get gold on.

I've got all of my gold medals too! To be honest, I got the golds a lot faster than I did in GT4 (from memory).

To be honest, I really enjoyed the tests. Yes, the stopping ones were a pain, but I really enjoyed the verses AI events!

I know a lot of people complain about the AI, but when you re-adjust your perspective & driving, 90% of the "issues" people face go away. When you drive like you're actually in your OWN car in real life, you stop being so computer-game-agressive, take better lines and treat your competitors with respect. Suddenly, they move around more and the races become more enjoyable.

With some robust but fair driving, I've had the AI cars move all over the track, including off onto the grass, while making sure that they don't hit me (and I don't hit them!!).

I think the AI is actually a good step on from previous games, but you do need to treat the game like this is real life and not drive in an NFS all-or-nothing style.. you wouldn't do that in your own car on a track afterall!!!

Off the top of my head, after IB-5 I don't think there are. Most of the tests beyond that point are either driving specific portions of track, or overtaking challenges IIRC.

Agreed, I think it's so frustrating early on because the AI is very slow around corners. So to challenge myself I had to drive a less powerful car, which means I had to pass in a late-braking manoeuvre or I got left behind on the straights. This situation highlights the downsides of the AI.

I'm now into the 'expert' series, and the AI is picking up the pace a bit and I'm noticing the finer nuances in their behaviour - much less robotic. So basically they respond better when your pace and their pace is similar, than when you have a lunge from 100m back. It's really a shame you can't set the AI difficulty as by the time the AI is matching your cornering speeds you're only driving the really fast/highly tuned cars. frown

I do agree that whilst it is a game, GT's emphasis has always been on being a "drving simulator" and as such it does respond to a smooth, controlled style and awareness what is going on around you.

I'm still at a relatively lowly level (18) and picking my way through the events, so perhaps I'm just not quite at the point where the AI picks up yet. However my above comments were really more in relation to the AI in the licence tests and thier rigid line following (I don't think I ever saw them overtake each other).

I'm quite happy to conceed there are times you are DQ'd for a fairly "robust" overtake that you know wasn't really on. However, when you've made a pass and are hit from the side or behind (or in one case by an AI car bouncing across the track after hitting a wall) - it does get a little frustrating that the detection system is so black and white.

Ha! That's not irritating, irritating is on the Top Gear Elise challenge and one of the competitors knocks a cone into the middle of the track and gets me disqualified for driving dead centre of the track and having a cone flicked under my wheels!!!! Grrrrrrr!

??? I ran over loads of cones on that test (some of which actually lifted the front wheels, with hilariously wild results!) and never got DQ'd! you must have done something else wrong, LOL! wink

You can hit the striped cones as much as you like, but hitting any of the solid colour orange cones will get you DQ'd (even if the AI hit them into your path).

Exactly, I used to have a game to hit all the striped cones in bends with the tail end, just don't hit the solid colour cones, or let some prick shunt one into the middle of the follow through and get DQ'd for nothing!

11 more Silvers to push up a fraction for Golds and I'm there, all done so far with a DS3 and using the standard buttons.

I was a bit disapointed the S license wasn't more challenging frown, outside of the DQ's for nothing smile, the Silvers I have left are all spread across IC IB and IA.

Do they still give you a video of the computer getting gold, to watch before you try it?

If so, my trick with the braking ones in the earlier GTs was to go by the time, ie start braking at 18.6 seconds or whatever time the computer braked at - gold every time, or within two or three attempts to find the sweet spot.

Yes they have videos, but in the ones I watched, the computer never got a gold... PD may have cottoned-on to your trick wink

Having problems on the slalom in the FT-86. Can only just scrape a bronze. Braking in the Aston was easy for me and got it on my second attempt. Just foot hard down from countdown and foot hard down on brake. Thought is was going to be a bugger. Obviously just lucky as miles away from gold on many other events after that. Have gold on first 30 but will take me ages to get the rest.
