I got a dozen breasts two weeks ago and froze them in batches of two. I took two breasts out yesterday morning and put them in the fridge to defrost but I've checked this morning and they are still frozen. Aside from turning the fridge up(!), what can I do with them now?

Leave them in water. It should get them to thaw.

In the fridge? Will they still be ok to cook having being in the fridge since yesterday morning?

Bloody iPhone lobbed the title off.

Well you did say they were still frozen...

Chuck 'em in hot water for about 10 mins until they go bendy. That's how I defrost steaks and I'm still alivesmile

Fling them in the microwave for 10 minutes on defrost setting. Check on them after 5 mins to make sure they are not starting to cook.

Its perfectly safe to leave frozen chicken out on the table/ counter top over night to defrost.

Bowl of room temp water will have them defrosted pretty quick.

Put them in a heavy based frying pan no heat & they will defrost quicker.

Best way to defrost something quickly is in a freezer bag in a bowl of 'cold tap' temperature water. No risk of it part-cooking or bacteria growing that way; you'll only be bringing it up to fridge-ish temperatures quickly.

tend to put frozen food into the microwave at say 5 mins at 50% power, it soon defrosts and allows me to use the item to cook with or spread out and cook on full power smile

The problem with that is that microwaves don't penetrate that far in ice, so you cook the outside before the centre is even defrosted*. Not too bad for soup, but useless for meat.

  • Jam doughnuts are the exception. By the time the outside is room temperature the jam is the temperature of molten lava!

My cat once ate an entire steak I was defrosting on the surface overnight. Fat bd.

I now put stuff in the oven or microwave overnight.

Have you checked it's not one of these?

Nope, it's one of these.

And my chickens have beaten both of them up already.
