MOT COST

TVR garage wants to charge 65 for MOT - can anybody explain why a garage would charge more than the 55 max the gov. prescribe?

do they do them on site or use another garage if the latter then they have their time to cover taking the car there if on site then should be normal price,have you asked them?

I also believe that if they take the car to an 'off site' separate MOT station that they may have to charge VAT on top.

Do you really care that much. If you get a good service re the MOT then jobs a good 'un.

Main dealer VW here charge £30, which I found odd really.

Sounds a bit like buying an alternator from the motor factors. Reg number says TVR - that will be £200+ VAT please sir. Phone back with part number and that will be £57 + VAT please sir

But I would say if you're having trouble with such things as handbrakes and emissions there must be something wrong with the car

A non-TVR garage wouldn't know how to open the door, never mind how to use both hands to apply the handbrake!

Personally I'd rather a proper MOT being done..

If there's something wrong, I want to know about it..

Mine cost me £50 and he is TVR sympathetic, But would not let me have a pass if it was not safe or running right.

Mine cost about £50 a week or two ago. He's next to Taylor TVR so he sees a lot of TVRs, so it was nice that my car was in the hands of someone who knew their foibles. Also nice to have it in the hands of someone who knew the correct emissions levels for Cerberas. He was sympathetic to things like headlight adjustment (mine are converted pods so difficult to adjust), but not to the leaky rear damper, which I think is good judgement.

I do know places where I could get it done for £30, and I know I'd almost be guaranteed a pass, but that's not the point of the MOT.

My wife can pull the handbrake on the Griff 4 clicks, and it'll hold on the steepest of hills...

Personally I'd much rather know my handbrake was working properly, or not, than get a sympathetic tester to "let it go"


How hard can it be to get a handbrake to work properly???

What else do sympathetic testers let slide, bit of play in a ball joint, ahh it'll be ok, steering not as tight as it should be, no problem, shocks a bit bouncy, no worries....

I'll stick with a proper MOT thanks

It passed at Kwik Fit, I assume they play by the rules.

True, but I would imagine they follow the MOT to the letter. They bloomin failed it on the rear number plate, even though it passed previously, strange.

As I say, I wouldn't assume anything! lol My best mate was a manager of a Kwik Fit branch, oh the stories I've heard. There's a reason why they've been on Watchdog several times and they're being sold because they are so much in debt.
