...as important selling points.

For me it have to be:

a) original (in some cases +15yo!) first aid kit
b) original tool kit (wow, it's got a screwdriver and a spanner! Must buy that car)
c) in-car phone (have you heard of anyone within last 5 years actually using it?)

I agree with the last one, although it does add a touch of period charm to a bargain barge. However the first two indicate to me that a car has been meticulously looked after- A good sign.

I have recently reinstated the original Audi first aid kit in my Barge hehe

Hate to say this but in some cases a complete tool kit is a massive plus point. I also think it shows someone who has taken care of a car.

How is the fact that the first aid kit hasn't been moved in 15years telling you about the car's maintenance level?? confused

I check car's condition and service history, not does it come with old bandages and aspirin!! biggrin

Whilst not of much use in themselves bits n bobs like that in a car
can show some care has been shown to keep things original

and in a classic they can be (period features) just as in a house
and to a collector or a marques fanboy having the right bits
could make or break a sale.

It shows attention to detail and a high level of "I give a st and like to keep things original and proper".

The tool kit in my car was missing a view bits when I got my E46 3-series. Guess what I did soon after getting it? Filled the gaps with the tools that should be there. My first aid kit is still sealed too - something I pleased about too.

You're wrong with this one imo. As mentioned, it's all about the attention to detail and gives an indication how the previous owner has maintained the car.

If it's a BMW, it's all about this in the glovebox:

Worthless features that are advertised are often the things that are standard and have been for 10 years+, for example on an E46 3 Series - 'power steering', 'rear headrests', 'electric windows' etc.

One female driver, I would've thought, is about the most worthless selling feature

Sorry Rottie just you then.

It seems people do value these signs of originality. Quite right too I say. Yes a screw driver and an old first aid kit in themselves are quite worthless, but as a sign of a careful owner they speak volumes.

One of the best signs I look out for are Tyres. Tyres are the one area where an owner can choose to scrimp if he wants to and its also the area that you can see at a glance if he has.

A full set of matching premium make tyres says a lot about how well it has been cared for and could be clue to how the rest of the car has been maintained.

Well, weren't the first-aid kit and a toolkit standard too? wink

I'm sorry, It still means nothing to me - I've seen massive pieces of st with a torch in the glovebox and first aid kit under the seat, and then on the other hand the old first aid kit is the first thing I would remove from my car and then spend a lot of money on maintaining it to a high standard.

But as I see from this thread most of the buyers are very gullible so from now on I will be advertising those features every time I sell a car - much cheaper than ACTUALLY preparing it for a new buyer by fixing and replacing bits and bobs wink

You see - I would change oil and air filter. Different people, different priorities... wink

+1

There's something very comforting about original parts and tools etc. It's much like paying a little bit extra for a genuine part rather than a generic one; it probably doesn't make a vast deal of difference, but you feel a little bit more content in your decision.

I actualy have a new first aid kit and fire extinguisher in my car so should they be needed I don't have to use the originals that are probably out of date anyway.
