No, this is the UK's stupidest speeders.

There are some who go faster than any of these, and don't actually get caught.

Allegedly.

Are the sentences just completely random?

A biker went to prison for doing 120-something mph but people went a lot faster than him and just got banned. confused

I wouldn't say stupidest, just unlucky smile. I don't really drive that fast myself on the road, but it's true, one regularly sees people doing what I'd estimate was over 120mph on motorways; it just depends who gets caught and who doesn't.

Some pretty severe discrepancies between offence and punishment in there!

I thought that too, but I guess the road and conditions play a part? One guy had his son on the back of his bike which probably didn't go down to well.

Interesting to see a few coppers on the list.

Note to self: I must slow down on empty stretches of motorway.

This really shows the variance in punishment, given history and circumstance etc. But, FFS these are public roads frown

One of the bikers had his son on the back without even full leathers the other attempted to evade capture and was already banned.

Both are rather more serious than a car (or bike) on a quiet motorway in the early hours of a summer morning.

The guy on the bik jailed was because it was in the wet and he had his son on the back and was risking his safety also

Some were undoubtedly stupid - 130+ in the wet on a bike with a child on board can hardly be considered anything but crass stupidity, and filming yourself doing 170mph isn't the smartest thing to do either - but I agree, an element of luck is involved.

I have, er, witnessed a Suzuki GSXR1100 and a TVR Chimaera 500 being maxed on motorways in the midlands. Coincidentally these are both vehicles I have owned, and both would exceed 170mph. wink Not something you'd do on an everyday basis, but if the opportunity arises and you have petrol in your veins, who wouldn't?

And if, say, two Ferrari's passed you at similar speeds to these, it's only natural that you'd 'try to keep up with trafic.'

Indeed! I Didn't know until recently that gaol time was on the cards for anything over 120. I only found out when i was telling a mate from work about a particularly brisk sunday evening trip between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Some of the people on that list must be fairly think like the Scottish guy who got caught between Aberdeen and Dundee. Every one in Scotland knows there are loads of cameras along there(9 last time i counted).

I noticed the policeman got off on the grounds of being an expert driver and finding the limits of the car. Does that mean anyone who has a racing license can max a car on their chosen stretch of motorway?

This is more about the stupid low speed limits on British roads, rather than any particularly high speeds, as far as I can tell. I'd imagine that with suitable machinery, road conditions, traffic conditions, that a lot of these guys wouldn't have been breaking much of a sweat, when they got done.
