S3C Boot solenoid.

My boot solenoid failed a month or so ago and having retrieved my golf clubs by the, ahem, approved method attention is now turned to replacing the dead solenoid.

I've had a search on this site but remain confused - what is the correct and currently obtainable source for something reasonably original-Clarion, Ford, Maplins or whatever ?

Not done it myself, but have bee told Maplins one works and fits straight on

I did mine a while ago. I think the parts ref list will identify it as a door actuator from a VW golf.

Hi Paul - how dare you, you sell me a car in "excellent" condition and only 3 years later I find myself lashing out £15 on a boot solenoid...

But seriously - she's running beautifully. No reliability issues in the 12K miles that I've enjoyed in her - GGO continues to delight even on the shortest of journeys. She's as loud as ever - although (in a moment of madness) I did consider dumbing the exhaust down a bit..

Fitted the boot solenoid this am but the only problem is that the original item had just 2 electrical leads supplying it (red and blue) whilst the replacement has 5 (white, black, brown, blue and green).

Neil at TVR car parts warned me that this might be an issue and offered further advice if this was the case - but his company is now on Xmas break and closed until next Tuesday.

Anyone happen to know what attaches to what ?

I had similar isue - from memory the extra 3 wires are all related to a seperate switching circuit - you don't need them so just find the two actuating wires and snip the others off. If there is a Maplins close by then they sell the two wire solenoid kit for just under £7 - ( part YD79L)

Thanks for that - for the benefit of future forum searchers it is the blue and green leads that provide the live feed. Make sure you get them in the correct order otherwise you will (as I did initially) end up wirh a solenoid that "pushes" rather than "pulls".
