We're about to exchange contracts on the sale of our house but settlement is in 3 months.

As we're actually moving overseas in two weeks the Buyers have asked if they can move and rent prior to settlement.

Positives:
We get a small amount of cash and don't need to pay bills
House is not vacant so less chance of 'issues'

Negatives:
Not really sure, can anyone list any??

If they want to move in, and you want to leave in two weeks, why can't they complete then?

Once they have exchanged they can move in under licence by agreement, your solicitor can arrange that.

My thoughts^^.

Wouldn't entertain the idea otherwise.

We had a similar situation with our purchase 3 years ago.

Our house was sold and the purchase was empty , BUT , there was a last minute problem with the land registry boundary line .

It would take 3 months to sort , we offered to move in on the basis we moved out within a month if the land registry problem could not be sorted , or we rented elsewhere and started looking for something else.

A shake of the hand and no paperwork and we moved in , the solicitors were going ape , but we had a " gentlemans agreement " and all was fine .They didnt even want rent for the period.

I would let them rent but get a firm agreement and all the " what ifs " clearly accounted for , with time limits.
