Renault Wind Roadster vs Mazda MX5?
Discussion
A lady friend of mine is contemplating buying a sports car. She is very interested in buying the new Renault Wind Roadster. She is going from a Toyota Yaris 1.0 and is wanting to buys a sensible first sportscar.
We would like some constructive explanation as to which in your opinion is the better car and why. Pro's and con's would help her decide a lot and other contributory factors are insurance, depreciation, reliability and price of spare parts/servicing and economy. The Renault is a 1.2l engine and for comparison the Mazda would be a 1.8l.
Anyone that has ordered a Renault Wind Roadster, your comments would be welcome as you must have also considered the MX5. We will be watching this thread with interest

I drive past a Wind every night on the way home, I can't help but think the poor things needs to fart.
I just can't get past the daft name, much like the Toyota Picnic or VW SHAAAAAAAAAAROOOOOOON!
That's about as helpful an answer I think you'll get here- it's only going to go one way anyway. For starters it's a Renault & unless the dealers have sorted their s
t out recently, are b
ds to deal with. Secondly it's a pony 1.2l. Thirdly it's a targa?? Forthly, it's wrong wheel drive.
I think i've covered all the Clarksonisms
Book a test drive instead.

The Wind is actually a dressed up Twingo, shock is actually a cut down old model Clio. So it's actually a (quote rubbish and unreliable) 13 year old design but I will concede it looks quite good. The Mazda will cost more to run but will be more reliable, nicer to drive and suffer from far less scuttle shake so swings and roundabouts really. If buying new under warranty there's probably not much in it for someone not really into cars.
I'd probably expect that the Mazda would hold its value a bit better...
Its a classic look which never gets old, whereas I can see the Winds "Beauty" Deminishing in a couple of years...
Mazda has a cult following and i'm sure any PHer would give her the thumbs up when she's driving her MX5!
Like I did to that very attractive young blonde looking orgasmicaly cool going round a roundabout sideways at 5mph in the snow!!!
Conclusion? If she's wanting a "cute" car on a budget get the Wind, for everything else, theres the MX5.
