different weekend car

i quite fancy having a weekend car to go with my mazda 6 mps but really not sure what to gte.
i have between 3 and 5k at the moment but i can save more.
it has to be pretty quick and not feel slow something quicker than my mps would be nice but i doubt il get it. must make a good noise and be ok in the handling but i don't have that many little lanes or stuff around me so power is more useful to me.
i was thinking i have had lots of skylines, a fiat coupe 20vt, bmw 330, mk1 escort rs2000, ibiza cupra and so on, i fancy something different i have had before, i like rwd but aslong as very playful im open to surgestions.
at the moment im thinking
rx7 fd3 as its a different engine setup i have had before, pretty quick and tuneable, looks lovely and decent handling. just worried about running costs and noise really.
a boxster, not that interesting but mid engine and haven't had that before and looks quite nice but i could only get the 2.5 and thats i feel with be underpowered and also high running costs.
or something american as i haven't had that before, old camero or mustang soemthing with plenty of charm, ok not the best handling but fun and powerful. just worried about lhd and parts and not being as quick as you think they will be.
also if i can i want something that will keep me interested and make me want to keep the car forever type of car, i can save to about 12k but more than that and id rather save the money, i can put about £50-£70 a week to the running of it and its only going to be used for weekend fun days.
