'er indoors wants to take the kids around London to see the lights - will try and go late to avoid the worst of the traffic (if possible) - but can anyone recommend a good route to take in the best of the light displays and perhaps some landmarks?
From which side? But anyway.... Oxford Street is busses only and it's a dive anyway.
GO at the weekend - no congestion charge and less traffic.
Drive down Regent street (that has lights) and onto whitehall (once they've cleared it up) and see parliament, big ben and the eye. THen across westminster bridge and up to Blackfirars bridge, and then finally back across tower bridge past thew tower. Generally, the best views at night are from the bridges.
I have to say, driving would not be my choice of ways to see it. It's an easy walk (depending on age of children) and there are bus routes you can hop on and off to get between bridges/sights with a travel card. That's probably what I'd do. Avoid tourist busses, they're ~£20 a ticket.
