XBox RROD - Options?

OK, it's at least 4 years old, so despite the initial anger at it happening, I guess it doesn't owe me that much.

So what do you experts advise? Best deal on a package, anything I should be aware of when buying the replacement etc.

Oh and the elephant in the room - PS3. I haven't completely ruled out getting one instead of the XBox, but I've heard too many bad things about GT5 (very disappointing) and don't think I can afford to buy a truck load of new games as well, so am 90% convinced I want to stick with the XBox (unless anyone can make a really convincing case for not doing so )

The latest Elites are around 149.99 iirc, so i should think you can pick up a basic one for around 110ish.

speak to MS, ive replaced RROD out of warranty (when warranty was only 12 months before they extended it) and it was 50 or 60quid to pay MS for a replacement/fix (i think they just sent a refurb).

wrap it up in a blanket while its on for about an hour.
make sure all the vents are covered.

mine rrod'd nearly two years ago and i get about 4 months use between blanket jobs.

google RROD fixes - very easy & cheap to do with a few screws and some time.

Or send it to me and I'll charge you about £30 for the work

By overheating the Xbox (As above), you cause the solder for the GPU tracks to melt and reform, usually correcting the problem. This doesn't recitfy the original problem however, (Of the badly applied heatsink not dissipating the heat and the board flexing) and it will return.

You'll pretty much cure it for good. I fixed my old Xbox when my new one went back under warranty. Took 30 minutes and now I have two Xboxes!
