A rerun of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Missile_Crisis ?

I've actually little idea of the US attitude towards Venezuela though, it's not a country you often hear about.

Publicly.

Privately, I suspect he is just working on his own retirement plan.

Well presumably another attempt by a CIA backed group to kidnap Chavez and install some puppet, followed by thousands of ordinary Venezuelans marching down from the favelas and surround the President's residence, until the CIA bring Chavez back.

Just like last time, Ernest.

Very cunning move by Imamaddinnerjacket - the Israelis will need *much* more air-to-air refuelling capacity to get all the way to Venezuela to bomb them.

They managed to get to Entebbe in the 70s - just a new challenge for them. Anyway, not the first time Israel has been to S. America..........

From an Iranian pov you can hardly blame them in looking for a bit of security and leverage over the Americans.

Not only Israel, but most of the Middle East want them 'dealt with' so it's not surprising that they are taking measures to counter this.

Isn't Chavez an equal pain in the arse for the Dutch and Spain?

If they want to deal with Iran properly then the Americans should just promote or even provoke an Arab-Persian war. The will is there (from both sides)and the Saudis and Emiratis now have a top notch set of fighter jets.

All the American's need to do is put out enough disinformation that the Iranians are close to obtaining the first nuke and Arabs will duly react.

Just let them get on with it.

Just won't be allowed. The US, under no circumstances, would ever allow any loony (dinnerjacket or chavez, or any other) to build missile sites that are within range of the US or any of its interests, Gulf of Mexico, Panama, etc.
