Not one of ours, but posted today on the Daf Club site so figured spread it around just in case.

Blue Daf 33, reg SBW276L stolen from the Ashton-under-Lyne area of Manchester. Owner is understandably gutted so any sightings will be appreciated. Either PM me on here and I can pass it on or get in touch directly on the DOC site: http://dafcars.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gener...

Hope it's found (relatively intact) soon. Not my cup of tea, but someone cherishes it.

Ashton-under-Lyne is local to me, will keep my eye's peeled.

I'm at a loss as to why anyone would steal a car like that. The market for it is obviously tiny, you aren't going to be able to sell it to some bloke down the pub. The only thing I can think of is that it has been stolen for parts and the parts will end up on ebay or something.

A colleague of mine had a Kawasaki H1 500 which is a 1970s two stroke triple. It wasn't in very good condition, but he used it daily and it got stolen from his drive. The percentage of people nearby who knew that it was worth something must have been tiny, and even then they must have realised it wasn't in great condition. I guess its the same kind of deal where the parts will end up on ebay...

Hope it gets found safe its an odd thing to take.

There are some superb pics here of the very succesfuly Rallycross DAFs of Jan De Rooy on this link, in what has to be a very unlikely Rallycross car!

It'll be the chinese. Some sewing machine parts are quite rare these days.

The problem with that is that the market for parts is as small as the market for the cars - there are maybe 20 - 30 left on road and the owners tend to have EBay alerts set up for any parts that turn up. So someone suddenly offering lots of bits after a car's gone missing is going to stick out like a sore thumb!

Odd thing is, it was a daytime theft so unlikely to be someone drunk and out for a laugh either (these things ARE a laugh to drive!). So, as you say, why would anyone steal one of these??? frown

Sorry to hear but that is a blast from the past. My dad had one the same colour brand new in the 70s, cost about £900 and petrol was around 30p/gallon.

Sorry to hear this.

I remember back in the eighties at the height of the classic car boom, there was a lot of urban myths around, regarding base model classic cars being stolen as they shared parts with high end exotics. I remember old Lancia’s being one example as they shared many trim and electrical parts with old Ferrari’s and Lambo’s.

My thoughts are that it may be on the way to Japan, as they go mad for small RHD European classics

I know if someone stole my classic, I could identify pretty much every part individually.

Now found and back with it's owner.

Apparently it was found by the Police neatly parked up without any body damage at all. The only damage seems to be a broken driver side 1/4 light, broken glove box lid, fuel cap forced open and broken and the ignition barrel had been cut off.

Good news. The only ones I remember were puke green. Ashton-under-Lyne sounds like a wonderful place, I got a load of parking tickets there a few years back, my car and myself had never been there!

If the fuel cap was forced open, were they either trying to syphon the fuel or maybe thought about torching it?
