Hi guys,

Think its almost time to get rid of the Tank run around and get something a bit newer.

I have up to 2K and have narrowed the choices down:

Seat Leon Cupra (not the R). good amount of chocies with milages under 80K
Audi A3 1.8T can still get in under 80k milages but choices are limited
Golf GTI, almost the same as the Leon in availability/milage/cost but the Ins group seems to be 10E as apposed to 16D for the Seat.

All the cars are basically the same so what to do think and have I missed any choices?

by a diesel turbo - anything German and you will be ok

can mostly be chipped to higher levels of performance - eg the golf GTTDI can be chipped to power above the GTI

many many years ago i had a pug 306 DT with XSI spec body and interior, was a great car

if you fancy one of the later BMW diesels - you can chip them to nearly 360/380 HP !!!!!

Not sure I want a oil burner but maybe. Don't like BM's

The leon, which is my choice at the mo is 180bhp and can be chipped to 210 so that would do.

I missed one off the list:
Alpha Romeo 156 2.5V6

It would be a Cupra and not the R but R power is only a chip away. Actually thinking th egolf might be the best bet.

Alpha sounds good and will probably be the best drive and place to sit but the Mpg might be the issue there.

or go bang in a shower of valves in such a spectacular way wink

Only jesting, just a friend of mine got burnt , ended up shelling out 4K in repairs when his engine went south.

I have a 318TI for a runaround, paid 1K for it 1 year ago, 1996, FBMWSH, 98K miles, drives like new. I've been drifting like a hero the past week, could do with an LSD tho, at least its correct wheel drive for a dab of oppo!

If you can get a decent Cupra for 2k then that would be my choice. I had an R when they were new (210 model) & loved it. A mate had the Cupra at the time.

Decent build quality, big boot & fairly quick too.
