Thank Goodness for Land Rovers

Not as bad as it could have been - I got lucky. Took the S3 for a warming up spin across Dartmoor today as she's sat for a few weeks and will for the next couple. The roads got a wash from the rain yesterday so salt was gone and it was reasonably warm (at least 2-3 degrees anyway ) so expected roads to be passable but was taking care anyway. However as I was following a Land Rover through a tree covered area at around 15-20mph (very narrow road) he attempted to turn right. All I heard was his tyres scrape as he went straight on despite his wheels being at a 30+ degree angle and the cars moved off the ice onto the road again and started to grip. Anyway he decided to take the other route into the village as I did and then went straight on rather than take the corner just avoiding the hedge.

The reason for my title. If I hadn't been following him I'd have tried that right turn as well and even going straight over the ice at around 10mph with no braking the car moved sideways by about 6 inches so I dread to think what would have happened if I'd tried to take the corner even at the 15mph I was doing.

Land Rovers - don't you love 'em - I do now

I've always loved Land Rovers, and I think this year I might get one - at least you can mend them standing up and save on chiropractor bills.

I also love landrovers, in fact when I was looking for an S a v8 landy was also on my list of possibilities odd as it sounds.

I worked for Land Rover for over 25 years and they are fantastic. Have one in your stable if you can.

I couldn't agree more, one of my other motors is a 1970 Land Rover series 2A which is just as much fun a the S and at 40mph on a straight road is scary.

I look on it a one big meccano set and very useful.

I have a Disco 300tdi just putting new A/T tyres on so it will go anywhere, bit more room and comfort than old Landy's
But that black ice will get you the same as everyone else!! wrote my last one off on it, interface with a drystone wall and telegraph pole! even smashed up and with a cracked front diff it drove 5 miles to complete the journey.
If you can spare a couple of grand get one for winter and laugh about how cheap parts are for them.

3.9 v8 Disco with no back box ...great sounds like a TVR, and on LPG so cheap as diesel to run.

can anyone tell me where to put your right shoulder when driving a landy? was going to use the glove box but there isnt one, under the seat? no. landys eh gotta love um!
