'Vegetarian' or 'microwave'?

Hemispheres of wrongness, right there.

It's a shame it goes OOD on the 24th, you could have had great fun annoying any Scottish friends you may have by giving them that for Christmas hehe

Actually, the fact it's OOD could make it even more fun biggrin

"Here hardcore Scottish patriot mate, I got you some Haggis. It's Veggie, but I hear it's just as good as the stuff you guys get. Oh yeah... just bang it in the microwave. Don't worry about the date, it's just a guideline y'see. "

Normal Haggis works well in the microwave if you are reheating it the next day. Just make sure you put it in a dish with a splash of water and cover it over when heating. That way it retains its softness and you dont get the crusty outside.

Vegetarian Haggis is the Devils work though and calling it haggis is an affront on the good name of haggis.

Am veggie though have never tried it, but vegetarian 'haggis' is pretty widely available. They had some in a department store in Edinburgh when I was there a few months ago, few different brands as well.

This was just in the food section of this store, not a specialist vegetarian retailer.

I couldn't agree more.
MacSweens have been doing veggie crap haggis for years. It must be the microwave bit that's new. MacSweens,in common with a lot of other haggis makers, now put so many herbs in their product it would be more suited as a face-pack in a beauty salon.
This butcher

is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in a league of his own when it comes to haggis IMO.

I really like it and its healthier than normal haggis. It tastes nothing like haggis though.

On all fronts then, it should really be renamed 'Haggis Surprise'!

We have two veggies in the extended family and have had to serve this stuff up at family do's - if you were to call it a nut roast then that would be fine but putting the word Haggis on the packaging is a bit wrong. I've cooked it with venison before and it went really well but it doesn't taste anything like Haggis.

I wonder how they reconcile their 'Guardian of Scotland's national dish' strapline with 'vegetarian'?

Your thread title suggest this is something new to you.

I am merely pointing out that its something quite widely available and not all that new.

Haggis is very healthy and nutritious.

That's because it isn't.

It might be nice, but it sure ain't haggis.
