Have family around for Xmas and there will be 6 of us on Xmas eve.

Need some ideas for really tasty "special" food which isn't going to be too heavy (that's whats Chrimbo is for after all) nor too expensive (the black turkey is costing enough- and as for the booze bill biggrin ....)

Bit of a Scandy theme here:

Starter: home-made gravadlax

Main: roast gammon with raisin sauce and Johansson's temptation (Swedish potato and anchovy gratin)

Dessert: stewed winter fruits in red wine with home-made ice cream

We're going for homemade dips and lots of stuff (wedges, breadsticks, raw veg) to dip in and some bread\olives etc .... and Aspalls Cider. Couldn't think of anything more different to the following day's Goose and all the usual.

We normally do that too. smile

This year though - good cheeses, smoked salmon, various charcuterie and oysters should do the trick.

Oh, and lots of port.

On the assumption that you cook your ham Crimbo Eve and have it cold on the day, cook it in time for supps crimbo eve instead of MC's Gammon !

We tend to have a fish pie on chrissy eve - loads of smoked fish in it and it's lovely!

We were going to go to our local Malaysian restaurant for the eve of the 24th, but they're now closing that evening, but opening on 25th & 26th.

So, looks like it will be some top quality smoked salmon, served with lime & dill and fresh homemade brown bread.
