Peugeot RCZ a design icon?
Discussion
In a very vague sense it looks like the TT but equally has a resemblance to the 206CC and Peugeots past. You may "see" a TT but if you analyse it, it's not really, any more than a 911 is a Beetle...
But even if it is, I haven't seen any patents on the design and do you honestly expect that if the TT is a success, no-one is going to cash in on the niche?
"Hi, I've had a 206, a 307 and a 308 but I really fancy a sporty coupe, Mr Peugeot dealer"
"Well go and buy an Audi TT then you berk, I have nothing to offer...oh wait, there's this RCZ..."
In that event, they should ban the Scirocco for copying the Volvo C30's hips and 480ES "concept" instead of remaining true to the actual Scirocco.

What is your car of the year from a design perspective?
It was TG Coupe of the year - maybe it is the best Coupe to come out this year. My point is that in no way is it a design icon. It's TT-esque coupe. The 911 is a design icon. The original TT was a design icon. Not this Peugeot.Whether you like it or not, the RCZ is not a design icon, it's just a nice coupe.
No way is the DS3 car of the year - it's an average car with a bit of forced design.
I know they have been slated for being a shameless TT ripoff, etc.. but I have to say it's about the first Peugeot I'd consider owning for quite some time! I think they're really striking and look excellent on the road.
Unfortunately Peugeot seem to have reasoned that because it looks like a TT, they can jack the price right up. So I think I'll pass.

But its a compromised design. have a look at the rear wings. Because its on a chassis which is too long, they have had to use basic styling techniques to disguise what would be a very long length of boring bodywork. Hence the doors which extend into the rear wing and the larger then necessary rear wheelarch. Without these, it would look too long.
Its a comprimised design based on a floorplan which is too long.

At least have a go at forming a comprehensive argument that goes some way beyond "my opinion that I hate it"

Maybe I need to go to Specsavers but to me this doesn't look like a TT at all, in fact not a single line of it.
It does, IMO look very good and original:

The only boarderline resemblance to the TT would be the basic 3 box shape if you removed all other lines but kept the rounded front.
And if anything I'd say there is more Cayman in the bloated arches and Nissan 370z in the roof line than Audi TT.

Peugeot destroyed Citroen, who were one of the most innovative and brilliant manufacturers, and I will never forgive them for it.
May they burn in hell for all eternity.
Partly. They were also a commercial disaster. For a brief period in the 80s, Citroen benefited from sharing bits of Pug 205 and 106 for bean money. Indeed, I had a Visa 17D which was actually a very good car indeed at the time. May they burn in hell for all eternity.
Sadly, all Peugeot have done is dragged Citroen down with their own dull range of rubbish and with a shedload of ugly MPVs. However, if the RCZ succeeds, I could see a Citroen spinoff. Ultimately, the game is about sales not leaking hydraulics and if the Citroen stuff was that good, in this day and age, surely they'd have developed it?
