Taken from a @RadioTimes tweet:

"Top Gear over Christmas - new episode airs 21 December, and the Middle East special is 26 December. Both 8pm, BBC2"

Clarkson, Hammond & May were talking about it at TG Live; it seems that Hammond in particular had the squits big style whilst filming the ME special.

Was about to post about this myself as I picked up a copy of the Xmas Radio Times earlier today.

Looks like the episode on 21 December it will be part of the new series but focused on their road trip which, I guess, was filmed in September.

Anyway, the blurb from RT:

Radio Times Choices for 21 Dec said:
As the tyresmoke trio return to our screens, a question hangs over the next series: what will they do about the Stig? Since the summer run ended, Ben Collins has unmasked himself as the human face behind the white-suited man of mystery, speed and poor musical taste.

The producers were outraged and a million merchandising opportunities went down the toilet. Or did they? For the recent arena shows, the team introduced a new Stig, hand-picked from the "Stig farm" where they breed tame racing drivers (or so a brilliant spoof video on the show's website claimed).

Whether he/she/it will make it to the small screen, we'll find out tonight. We'll also see Clarkson, Hammond and May test the world's top sports cars by driving a Mercedes, a Porsche and a Ferrari up America's east coast, where they face a series of challenges culminating in a race to New York.
Radio Times Listings for 21 Dec said:
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May compare the Mercedes SLS, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and the Ferrari 458 Italia in an epic road trip up America's east coast. Along the way they undertake a series of challenges culminating in a fight to find the fastest way into New York, all in the name of crowning the world's greatest sports car. Plus a round-up of car-related Christmas tat, and another celebrity taking to the track as the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car.
