Anyone else see this? Quite a fair portrayal I thought and some very candid interviews.. Well worth a watch on iPlayer for anyone that missed it if you are into the books.

Damn, I would have loved this.
Was only thinking today how he was one of the best, and how many authors are derivative of his stuff.

Very, very good programme.

He was an 'interesting' character with an amazing life story. Having read his stories and autobiographies to kids, seen interviews etc. it's good to hear more of the story behind the public figure.

It was very good, the man was absolutely fascinating, the life he led, the things he did, the tragedies, there was just something about him that made him "special".

I didnt realise how genuinely witty he was either, some of those TV interviews were absolutely brilliant, especially the one with the torch.

I think I'm gonna go out and buy "Boy" and "Going Solo" right now.

Do it! Two of my favourite books.. I'd also recommend a visit with or without kids to the Roald Dahl centre at Great Missenden.. lots of interesting stuff from his life there. There's also a Roald Dahl Museum in nearby Aylesbury but this is aimed more at younger kids (interactive exhibits etc)

Loved the doc. Especially the bit where his daughter was describing her borrowing his car when she was 11 or 12, to visit her friends and go to the sweet shop. hehe

They didn't funnily enough. They covered the publishing of his first short story in the US but not the Gremlins book (and aborted Disney film I recall?).
