Am planning on tapas wednesday evening and wondering if the PH collective could offer any suggestions? I work near Bank and get a traim from Waterloo so near to either would be nice. Budget not a massive issue.

Any ideas?

Went to Old Spitalfields Market today, and there was a great one there called Meson Los Barriles. Good food, huge portions, and pretty cheap for it's location.

Brindisa at Borough Market is the choice. http://www.brindisa.com/restaurants/

The Iberico ham is the most stunning thing I have ever eaten.

+1 for Meson Los Bariles; they also have a more traditional branch on Goswell Road, which I prefer.

Meson Don Felipe on The Cut is also fabulous but I don't think you can book, so tough to rely on.

For those who've not tried both, Brindisa is harder to get a table (impossible at peak times), portions are smaller, and prices slightly higher. IMO quality was very comparable.

If you get there by midday on a weekday you will get a table. Leave it later and you will struggle. The great thing about it IMO is not just the food but the wine list. Plus if you eat anything that you really enjoy, you can pop round to the shop on the market and get buy it to take home.

both very good, but spitalfields is much less hectic and less pricey.

You can book Tierra Brindisa, which is on Broadwick Street.

I rather like the chaotic nature of the Borough one.

Meson Don Fillipe must have changed, because it used to be a bit nasty.

You simply have to try the Valdispino at Brindisa - pure sherry perfection! You can also buy the food in the shop next door (my personal favourite is the pan fried padron peppers).

The grilled chorizo with rocket and peppers sold outside are rather nice too.

As are the clams with butter beans.

And cecina, the air dried beef.

Am hungry now !

Hands down.
Can't book which can be a pain.
Food is sensational (poohs all over Brindisa IMHO).

Ive yet to find anywhere better than Brindisa.

Not sure why Meson Don Felipe is being mentioned on this thread... the food is pretty average.

Guys - nothing better than this. I have taken a couple of Spanish associates here on 2 separate occasions and they have been seriously impressed.

I think food is much better at Brindisa, but Los Barilles is more convenient and much easier to to get into.
