wing mirrors

This is probably an old favourite, but I've done a search and couldn't find anything....

I have the classic problem with the near side mirror - it's in need of some viagra!

I know people have done conversions in the past with MX5 mirrors and Audi TT mirrors - does anyone have any advice on a good quality solution or conversion that looks the part?

You know, I was sure there was a FAQ on this (since its frequently asked ) theres not, so if we get all options on this thread then this could be te future FAQ...

MX5/Eunos mirrors seem to be a popular replacement for the "rabbit ears" originals
Dihatsu mirrors look OK too (IMO) - Andy Nelson has these...
Old Fiesta mirrors fit but look a bit big (again IMO)
I have seen the "bullet" type mirrors as fitted to MG's etc and they look better than they sound.
BMW Z3, Honda Civic and pretty much any doorskin mounted mirror could fit, its just a case of availability, price and asthetics I suppose.
I'm sure there are others...

Lets have a photo of each type used to make this a really useful FAQ for the future...

These are the MX5 mk1 mirrors fitted to my S2. I reckon that chrome bullet mirrors fitted to some older sports cars would look pretty cool.

I had the mx5 mk1 mirrors on mine but they never looked right to me, so swapped them for VW Corrado ones ( as on tuscan etc). I got mine from a local VW breakers for £20 a pair and painted them, Looked amazing and electric movement !!

just picked up a pair of mx5 mirrors in need of some attention for a fiver from the scrap yard. will post pictures when there fitted

These are Ford, commonly used around late 70's - 80's on Escorts, Capri's etc etc....

mx5 mirrors are on hold, door card comes off easy enough but the old 'bunny ears' seem to be fibre glassed in ? to be honest its a job i can do without at the mo thought they would be just bolted on, dont want to do anything irriversable in a hurry.

If you cut them off the mx5 ones bolt over the hole. Prob one of my two best mods makes such a difference to driving the car. Oh and to the look of car.

did you cut it from the outside, will I have bits stuck inside, what did you use to cut it? think the 'neck' is alloy?

I have a pair of Audi 80 door mirrors which I though might fit my V8S, but they won't. PM me if anyones interested in experimenting with them.
