Shots from NYC - street candids/randoms

Not really posted much in here, but I thought I'd start. Here are some shots from a recent trip to NYC. 400D, shot typically taken with a 70-200L or Sigma 10-20. PP in Lightroom and final touches (including removing a massive sensor dust spot!) in Photoshop.

I'm particularly into street shots, people and details and for that I find the 70-200 ideal (esp with the added crop factor of the 400D).

Comments and feedback very welcome.

i would strongly recommend flickr tho as facebook compesses your photos, making them not as crisp as they should be.

Niiice.

Thought the first couple looked a bit under but aside from that the set shouts NYC and you've done well with the processing. Your street stuff is well spotted and conveys a strong story. Especially liked the shot under Times Sq.

Presume same George from a certain BMW forum that the only worthwhile thread is the photo (version2)?

Were you more self conscious with these, don't know why doesn't feel as free as your usual very high std imho.

You'd presume correctly.

Not sure tbh, I don't think I found NY as inspiring as I expected. Moreover, tried to experiment a little more than my usual 70-200 based candids (hence the ultra wide shots from the floor to get different perspectives). The other thing about NYC is you want to get that 'classic' NY shot with yellow taxis, skyscrapers and hustle and bustle - as such I think I found myself probably trying too hard to get it rather than shooting for myself (if that makes any sense at all).

A write up all about the NYC trip should get up on said BMW forum as some point, but still need to do the Euro Banger Rally write up first.

In the meantime, a few more...

Amazing shots. I rarely have the confidence to point my camera at total strangers. What did you use to stabilise the low light shots? A tripod on the NYC subway would bring all sorts of unwanted attention (I only ever attract loonies when I have been on there!).

Some nice shots there, although I have to say I'm not keen on b&w, shooting b&w in NY seems a bit cliched somehow and (I imagine) there are some great colours in the big apple that we're missing out on

Having said that, the *almost* b&w of the last one (binoculars over the water) really works!
