Update: Ferrari P4/5C Racer

Jim Glickenhaus's unique 'Ring racer finally begins to look like a car...sort of

The unique and determinedly independent Ferrari P4/5C racer of super-wealthy car nut Jim Glickenhaus is finally taking shape - and here are the pictures to prove it.

Those blessed with good memories (and an ability to cope with Monday mornings) will recall that Glickenhaus is going to use his Ferrari P4/5C to take on the might of BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Audi at the 2011 Nurburgring 24 hour race.

Glickenhaus's car, which will use a 430 Scuderia chassis and a 430 GT2 racer running gear wrapped up in a rather curvy body, is currently having its carbon fibre bodywork wrapped over the roll cage and monocoque, but it should be ready for testing out in the real world early in 2011.

And the chances of taking on and beating the big boys at the Nordschleife? Well, realistically they've got to be pretty slim, but Jim has gathered together a fine collection of drivers - Mika Salo, Nicola Larini, Fabrizio Giovanardi, and Luca Cappellari - so who knows what could happen? Either way, we'll certainly be cheering the Ferrari on come June next year.

You can have a look at our previous story on the Ferrari P4/5C for more technical info, or follow the P4/5C story via its facebook page.

That looks very nice!

I'm not sure about the Ferrari 430 engine's 24hr reliability record but I wish him all the best!!

Awesome project. Best of luck to Jim as he is a serious petrolhead with some very interesting ideas that he puts into practice. Can't wait to see the finished article...

Wonderful stuff and exactly the sort of thing I'd be doing if I had the resources to do it!

In fact if I had the money behind me this is ALL I'd be doing. biggrin

We have a new PH god, oh my goodness, to not only commission your own absolutely mind blowingly stunning, bespoke ferrari

But to race it, in a 24 hour race

I'm sorry but that simply redefines awesome for me

Bravo

Has he taken the original Enzo based P4/5 to pieces to make this or is it all bespoke for the F430 chassis?

It's a different car. He's using the Scuderia chassis so he can convert it to road use afterwards...

I might be stating the obvious but if you want to find out more about the car or indeed Jim then look up ferrarichat.com, he is a regular on the site and there is great detail and updates from him on both the race car and the road car.
I have been on there for sometime, as a Ferrari fan it is amazing to have the opportunity to chat to both Jim and others who have owned such rare cars including a few ex GTO owners with great stories.

Sadly there are no Ferrari Factory Efforts in Sports Car Racing so I guess it's up to us and other Privateers...

No doubt this will look absolutely gorgeous, but it'd be interesting to know how it performs aerodynamically compared to a 430 gt2. Any wind tunnel testing planned or done at the design stage?

P 4/5 C's body is derived from P 4/5 which had a lot of work done in the wind tunnel and produced a lot of data which we're using.

P 4/5 Competizione will be fully tested as well and will be much more aerodynamically efficient than an F 430 GT2.
