Camera insurance
Discussion
Your home insurance will cover theft from the home, mine is limited to individual items no more expensive that £1500, unless specified as an individual item. Beware though, as there will be a limit to what they will pay out for camera equipment.Tell them about EVERYTHING you have of value.
Camera insurance is certainly worth it, especially for being out and about.

I have a pro policy with Glover and Howe, including public and professional liability. I've never had to make a really big claim, only ever for dropped or damaged gear, but they've always been quick and efficient. Gear is covered on a new for old basis.
I use http://www.photoguard.co.uk/ they are not the cheapest and I have never made a claim but the peace of mind is worth it IMO.

Be very very cautious with home insurance, I had a D90, D60 and a couple of lenses stolen back in June, insurance was with a large supermarket begining with S and an absolute 100% waste of money
Conversely, I broke my 40D and had a 60D delivered within 7 days by Lloyds TSB / Aviva.

I pay an extra £15 a year to cover £6000 worth of camera equipment for theft and accidental damage europe wide on my home insurance.
Think I pay slightly more than that with a company whose logo is a large X, but it's new for old cover and covers theft, accidental damage, etc., both here and overseas. I have around £5k worth of kit covered.I spoke to someone when I got my camera and wanted to insure it, and they basically said that as long as I had receipts they would be able to pay out in the event of a claim.
I can only suggest speaking to your insurance company to see what their views are on insuring second-hand items such as bodies or lenses.

Out of interest who is that with? I'll need world wide insurance for my gearcottonfoo said:
Any recommendations for full world-wide cover, or are the above-listed exactly that?
Glover and Howe do full world-wide cover, but their UK-only policies are cheaper and include a certain amount of worldwide cover too, so depending on how often / long you are away it might be enough.tog said:

Thanks, I'm in NZ for five weeks shortly so I will have a look at their policies.nre said:
I've often wondered how an insurance company would handle two items being lost/stolen /damaged that are individually lower value than their limit but when connected together a la SLR and Lens are over it. Tell you to sling your hook I expect.
My home insurer covers the body and lenses separately. I asked specifically: not that my kit is worth umpteen thousands, but the point of having insurance is to be covered!Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
