Wireless Remote for Canon 40D?

Quick one really - I can't work out which remotes are actually compatible with the 40D. Conflicting websites suggest the RC-5 or RC-6... or are they >all< compatible?

IMO buy the right set of yongnuo RF-602's with the remote cable and you have a wireless remote release for up to 100m...

The Canon infra red remotes won't work with the 40D as it doesn't have an infra red receiver built in. The only Canon option you have is the LC-5, but they are rather expensive.

I'd go with the Yongnuo remote as Rob suggests above. It will give you wireless flash trigger functionality too.

Idea is to remote release for light painting and drawing stuff in night skies.

Didn't realise it doesn't have an IR doofer. Will look at the suggested thing

Not sure how the IR remotes or the rf-602's work for bulb mode.

I personally use a Giga T Pro on my 40D.

It does

• Wireless trigger
• Self timer
• Interval timing (i.e. auto fires the shutter every n seconds - timelapse)
• Timing bulb mode (i.e. control the bulb to the nearest second)
• A few other odds and ends that I have not used yet

One tip if you buy one, buy a small kitchen storage pot to store it in your bag. Before I bought one I went through 2 lithium batteries due to the button being pressed whilst crammed in my bag. Annoying when you come to use it and the bugger is broke.

Chances are you can just use a cabled remote that has a lock button mechanism for bulb mode. A few quid from eBay/7Dayshop. Set it, wander off and do your lighting thing, return and unset it.

I've got the rf602s but can't get them to trigger the shutter wirelessly, and if using bulb mode need to plug the transmitter into the receiver on the hotshoe and then plug that into the camera via the cable.

They're on the right frequency, any ideas as to what's going wrong?

If you turn on the receiver and then partially press the transmitter button, does the LED on each unit (Rx and Tx) light up green? Then does fully pressing the button make the LEDs light up red?

If so the transmitter is working and the receiver is getting the commands correctly.

With the receiver plugged into the remote shutter socket via the cable it then ought to just work (assuming the cable is ok and there is not some other fault in the receiver module). Also you are using the remote shutter cable and not the PC cable (forgive me if that was obvious)?
