Camera straps

'Afternoon,

I hate Nikon camera straps. They might as well put flashing lights on them.

I was looking around last night briefly and saw some that looked ok, but they had plastic quick-release snaps on them (I'm thinking of a Hama specifically, but others had them too). This doesn't strike me as something you'd want on a camera strap in case it comes open for whatever reason.

Am I right in thinking like that or am I being a bit paranoid? Any recommendations for something comfortable but not too bulky? I'm not keen on the Black Rapids because of the use of the tripod mount, won't fit in my rucksack easily.

Definitely OpTech.

Mine does have quick release snaps on it but it's never come off.

Given that whatever product you look at there will always be a horror story *somewhere*, I've heard of people dropping cameras when using Black Rapid straps (the attachment came loose on the bottom or the original style clips could twist open). Just mentioning it because you may want to check if they're fixed those issues.

I've used Up-Straps on my cameras for a few years now with good results. They're made of strong webbing with a genuinely non-slip rubber shoulder bit. Only issue is they're only available in the US (but they ship internationally).

I second that. I use OpTech Pro straps on both my cameras. They're very comfortable, do not slip and are particularly good when you have a heavy camera/lens combination.

I've just checked and mine's Pro as well.

Cheers all. The OpTech Pro is cheaper than I was expecting, warehouseexpress have it for 18.49 so I will probably go for one of those

I've got a couple of optech pro straps. They're very good.

I have an Optech without the quick release on one body and a Black Rapid on the other. Both work fine. I think the issues with the Black Rapid has been resolved with the introduction of the one piece FastenR-3 adaptor. I attatch it to either the camera body or the lens tripod mount ring if I'm using my 70-200. Not had any problems with anything coming loose.
