A series of bombings and mortar attacks targeting Christian areas has killed at least three people in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, security sources say.

Six districts with strong Christian majorities were hit, and at least 24 people have been injured. The attacks come days after more than 40 people died when Islamist militants seized a Catholic cathedral. "Two mortar shells and 10 home-made bombs targeted the homes of Christians in different neighbourhoods of Baghdad between 0600 and 0800 (0300 and 0500 GMT)," an unnamed official told AFP news agency.

Police said the predominantly Christian areas of Camp Sara, Sinaa Street and al-Ghadeer in central Baghdad were among the districts hit, according to the Associated Press.
as a muslim it makes me wonder why the christians are never vocal about such things? you never hear the vatican being up in arms about such things and saying to catholics to protest etc...

They have real jobs to do, and can't afford the time off to dance about in the street burning effigies of Uncle Mo the child molester.

Because they know that by trying to retalliate it will just make things worse. The sooner people stop using imaginary friends as an excuse for murder the better.

As a rule they will tend to hold those who carried out the act itself as responsible, rather than aiming venom and hatred at anyone that may share a few traits with them.

The figure of 14% (see below) has been given as the number of active christians in this country. As the age demographic suggests most of these are middle-aged or older, perhaps a lack of energy and hip/knee joint flexibility might be part of the problem.

The figure of 14% (now three or four years old) is a worst case scenario. Many researchers suggest a much lower one.

However, the CEO of one particular sect suggests it is much higher but the way of calculating those figures is less than scientific.

When my paternal grandmother was chided by the local franchise holder of the same sect for not treating a miscarriage with due consideration – she carried on working that day – she gave him a bit of a dressing down. My family became methodists – ie a religion without any dogma. Or religion come to that – overnight.

This was a big thing with the local chapel as my father had 17 siblings so they thought they would have to get in more pews. But all my uncles were still considered catholics by the local outlet despite some of them never having been to any of their retail shops. So perhaps 14% is the top of the estimates.

By the way, I'm not religious.

It is the year 2010 in the Christian calendar and 1431 in the Muslim calendar. In 1431 you may have got a Christian reaction, in 2010 not so much.

Perhaps it is just that the western media likes to let us know that the world is scary and our governments will protect us from evil shouty people who will do anything to kill people not like them?

They could hardly show the Chipping Sodbury branch of the WI tooling up to go and storm a Mosque where they believe a radical cleric was operating could they?

And that is the gist of the problem. Islam is going through its "medieval" period.

Pretty much. Christianity has evolved past the point of seeing itself as and purporting itself to be a singular entity.

Because it's supposed to be a peaceful religion and it has some form of hierarchy, so stupid comments are supposed to be suppressed.

Islam is also supposed to be a peaceful religion, but has no central organisation, so any old lunatic or poorly-educated tribal elder can set himself up as an Imam and whip up the lunatic fringe with a frankly bonkers interpretation of the central text.

Which is unhelpful.

Because we are British, and we just happen to be Christians. Muslims are Muslims first, and British second. It's a big difference, and the major cause of many British peoples distrust and suspicions of Muslims.
So the christians killed in Iraq, are Iraqi's who just happen to be Christians. We have become used to Iraqi's killing Iraqi's, it's what they appear to enjoy doing, it seems that radical Muslim's enjoy being violent and killing people who hold differing religious beliefs.
As someone pointed out before, the Muslim faith is in the 15th century, they need to realise that we are now in the 21st century.

Yes, but you just have to go on the 'Revenge of the Christ' ride. You can't miss it, it's just to the right of Crucifixion Land. The robot Judas fires lasers out of his eyes, it's pretty intense.
