This is pretty much a question to those who can check what a car is through the reg plate, i saw this car in Oldham at the weekend.
I couldnt get a photo as i was driving, but the reg was YJN331.

Can anyone tell me what it was? Lovely car.

I didn't think the S was out in 1996? I thought it came out in 1998?

In that case there are several explanations-

1)it is a kit car using a Jaguar S-type as a donor car (aritocat or similar) and the owner is trying to get away with it withought putting it through an IVA test.

2)It has been put through an IVA test and the reg check companies haven't updated- my Lomax still comes up as a 2CV dolly, even though it is correctly registered on the V5 as a Lomax 223

3)copied/illegal plate.

Sounds like a Jaguar C-type recreation if you ask me.

OR it could be an Original S-type.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_S-Type_%281963...

yup, the new shape S-type was 1998, you're right. Was led astray by the Regcheck device thingy.

The car in question Yjn331 is now my car. Passed on to me by my father as he has lost interest.
A proteus c type jag, styled as a '51 Le Mans entry.
1964 s type and various other jag doner parts.
Grp body, 4.2 donk, 5 speed box. A work in progress and always will be. You don't drive an old jag without having to plan your journey days ahead. She is a lot harder to drive than a 150, e 4.2 or an e v12 as there is no roof, no soft top, no wipers. In fact nowt. So when your journey is from the sunny hills of Oldham, yeah ok, and you go to Tatton park in a convoy of mk2 rs 2000 and the lead car goes over Barton bridge(the long way round), and it's raining very hard.. ssiping
down, you miss those creature comforts.

Oh and kits come complete and with instructions.
