"Phil Woolas' election as an MP is declared void as two judges order a re-run of the contest in Oldham East and Saddleworth."

Good. The man is a fool - he will never recover from the drubbing meted out to him by Joanna Lumley.

He will of course now win with an increased majority. Unless of course the Tor candidate stands down.

Folk seem to have gone off the Libdems, now the boy Clegg has shown his true colours.

He's been declared a liar, so why would more people vote for him? There's still a chance that he will be barred from public office, which wouldn't be highly amusing in the slightest!

This is a problem that neither party of the coalition wanted so soon.

This will be interesting!

Another Labour candidate will win.

Labour could put a monkey (or maybe Hazel Blears) up in some of these constituencies and win, they represent the working people you know.

Fraser Nelson on Sky News says otherwise. He is allowed to stand.

That's brilliant news.

I've always hated that smug weasel Woolas.

The Judgment says they are satisfied that "the statutory penalties for the illegal practices committed by the Respondent are both necessary and proportionate." The Statutory penalties mentioned are voiding the election and disqualifying the respondent (Woolas) from being an MP for 3 years.

Judgement said:
Fourth, in addition to complaining about the Petitioner to the Electoral Commission and to HM Revenue and Customs she made complaints about a number of Liberal Democrat councillors and also complained to the RSPCA alleging that Julie O’Brien had ill-treated her cat. In her oral evidence she added a further complaint against the Liberal Democrats; they had thrown stones at her windows.

Indeed and I would have thought Labour would want to field a different candidate.
It will be interesting to see if the Lib Dem support holds up.

I heard woolas on radio 4 not long ago.

Basically this is a bad result because politicians will be put off from saying things in future was the gist of what he was saying.

This is the same person who said resettlement of Gurkhas would cost £1.4bn! Glad his generally deceitful behaviour has caught up with him.

I hope that it's a Tory that won't run. It was 14k each for Labour and LibDems, and 11k for the Tories. He only won by 100ish votes.
