Steering column.. failure of rake adjustment pivots

As the column is the TVR/Vauxhall unit common across the range....the car I have been working on failed the MOT on the top column bush and this what I found. I the past an after market alarm had been fitted to the car and the electrician had opted to put 2 eyelets attached to the rack adjustment pivots (one each side) in doing this...the pivots, which are pressed fit and peened over to hold them in place, were pulled flush with the main casting and loose! The MOT test presumed the bearing but pivots have a step in them and the top column was a write off, I've swapped in a new top column and sorted it now BUT!
