Cannon 550D

Hi,firstly sorry if it is covered elsewhere here but i am after some advice.
I am looking to buy the misses a cannon 550 D but unfortunately i know absolutely nothing about cameras,lenses etc but she does.However i want to keep it as a suprise so can not seek her advice.
Is there anywhere anyone would recommend to buy one from and are there any lenses to look out for or avoid.
Ideally i am looking to get a twin lens kit and the budget will be around £800 to £900.

What's she likely to use it for? That'll dictate the lens choice to a large degree.

At that price point I'd likely look at getting 1 good lens as opposed to a couple cheapo ones.

She normally does a lot of landscape type photos but does also do a lot of motorsport stuff like super bikes and touring cars.

If she knows what she wants and you don't, the 'surprise' element is a bit risky IMHO. Better to go shopping together and you pay the bill.

Then something like a twin lens kit will be good - 18-55 for Landscapes and 50-250 or 70-300 for motorsport

Hmm.

You could cover all the basics and get a tri-lens kit within budget. Here's an example.

Normal kit lens plus a 50mm for the creative 'traditional' stuff (more or less) and the 55-250 for the motorsport. I would not have been too keen on the last lens until I saw some shots the other day taken using one and thought it was quite impressive, given the price.

This is something i may end up doing.It would be a shame to miss out on a cheaper deal though if i can get a lens or two cheaper all in.
